Arsenal has a lot
of players that can play in the
wide areas, however, the technically ability needed in the central midfield is very low, so i figure the is so much effort been put in to
get Lemar.
The obvious one is that we simply do not need any
wide players with the likes
of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Alex Oxlade - Chamberlain and also the midfielders like Wilshere and Ozil before you even
get to young Gunners like Gnabry, Iwobi and all in the squad.
I only wish to focus on those who can play in the CF position (as that's what everyone's
getting bent out
of shape about) but it is clear we have
wide players who can score and we have
players who can do so from midfield, some
of whom are still developing — like Wilshere, Ramsay, the Ox — and from whom most
of expect to see more and more this season.
If he can perform like that for Arsenal then Ox will not
get any game time out
wide, all our
wide players are ahead
of him.

of the club, a
wide range
of social occasions arranged throughout the year give
players an opportunity to
get to know each other both on and off the court.
Out
wide we've
got Sanchez for the left & an abundance
of players competing for one other slot, and it's a reasonable expectation for one
of them to find form; Walcott, Ramsey, Oxlade - Chamberlain, Campbell, Iwobi....
They've
got a lot
of strikers, no
wide players, and he continues to play 4 -3-3.»
Arsene Wenger does have something
of a reputation for
getting the best from pacy young French forwards who tend to play out
wide and we all know that his style
of managing
players is a lot different to that
of his old rival Jose Mourinho.
Wide players getting in crosses to
players, set pieces, big switches
of play to isolate a defender 1 on 1 with a winger, direct runs into the box with good footwork etc..
Mertz should never have been our captain in the first place... who has ever heard
of a team that makes 11th hour transfer buys (Arteta & Mertz) then seemingly places those same individuals into prominent leadership positions from the
get - go... indicative
of the problems that have permeated our clubhouse for the better part
of 7 years under the Kroenke & Wenger... what is wrong with the
players chosen and / or the management style
of Wenger that doesn't develop and / or encourage strong leadership from within... Mertz was the fine collecting lackey from year one... this is what happens when you don't
get world - class
players because many times they want to have a voice on and off the pitch and this can't happen when you play for a fragile manager who has developed a coddling wage structure where everyone is rewarded for simply wearing the shirt and participating in the process... not enough balance between performance and pay, combined with the obvious favoritism shown to some
players regardless
of their glaring lack
of production... remember that Ramsey has played in positions that make no sense considering his skill - set (out
wide) and has forced other
players off the field or into equally unfamiliar positions with little or no justification (let's remember when you read articles about how Ramsey's goals this upcoming season being the potential X-factor for our success that this is the same individual who didn't score a goal until the final week last season)... this
of course is just one example
of many... before I hear another word from Mertz I want this club to address the fact that no former
player of any real consequence has any important role in the management structure
of this club, yet several former Gunners have expressed serious interest in just such an endeavor (Henry, Viera, Adams, Bergkamp... just to name a few legends)... there is only one answer: an extremely insecure manager!!!
Other top
wide forwards that I like reus, Griezmann I think there best position is On the left they are versatile but to
get the best out
of players they need to be played in there best position and For me the left wing is Alexis's.
Alexis
gets chance to play as a CF for periods as Theo can drop out
wide easier than Giroud, if Welbz is playing on the right then all 3
of our
players could play
wide and CF.. The hold up play Giroud is great at won't be needed so much as Ozil and Alexis can do hold onto the ball and then bring others into play.
Up front we have a few world - class
players surrounded by some serious pretenders... Sanchez is by far the most accomplished
player in our attack but the controversy surrounding his contractual mishandling could see him go before the window closes or most definitely by season's end... obviously a mistake by both parties involved, as Sanchez's exploits have never been more on display than in North London, but the club's irresponsible wage structure and lack
of real intent have been the real undoing in this mess... Lacazette, who I think has some world - class skills as a front man, will only be as good as the
players and system around him, which is troubling due to our current roster and Wenger's love
of sideways passing... Walcott should have been sold years ago, enough said, and Welbeck should never have been brought in from the
get - go... both
of these
players have suffered numerous injuries over their respective careers and neither are good enough to overcome such difficulties: not to mention, they both are below average first - touch
players, which should be the baseline test for any
player coming to a Wenger - led Arsenal team... Perez should have been played
wide left or never purchased at all; what a huge waste
of time and money, which is ridiculous considering our penny pinching ways and the fact that fans had been clamoring for a real striker for years... finally Giroud, the fact that he stills wears the jersey is a direct indictment
of this club's failure to
get things right... this isn't necessarily an attack on Giroud because I think he has some highly valued skills, but not for a team that has struggled to take their sideways soccer to the next level, as his presence slows their game even more, combined with our average, at best, finishing skills... far too often those in charge have either settled or chosen half - measures and ultimately it is us that suffer because no matter what happens Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke will always make more money whereas we will always be the ones paying for their mistakes... so every time someone suggests we should just shut - up and support the team just think
of all the sacrifices you've made along the way and simply reply... f *** off
Some would say i am being harsh, but its the truth, Ozil basically
got a mention, base on some journalist thinking
of the most accessible targets for Barcelona if Neymar goes, not even considering the
wide gap in the difference between the
players.

getting wider as Wenger is happy with the quality
of the team and feels most
players out there (whether available or not) cant improve or displace his stars.

player gets in or around the 18 yard box they become selfish and force a glory move instead
of passing to the
wide open teammate.
Even though I thought that the way Norwich had set up and the lack
of width from our so - called
wide players was not helping him, I thought it was sure to be Giroud to
get the hook, especially with his confidence at rock bottom after his longest goal drought since joining the Gunners.
Gnabry is an exciting talent but he has had a few injuries, let him
get over that issue on loan and not end up being injured when we need him because we didn't buy... Put Welbeck as a
wide attacker as I believe Wenger will deploy him out
wide to learn more and to work on his shooting, like Theo was a
wide player for most
of his development with Wenger.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety
of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style
of play has become a shadow
of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where
players play out
of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current
players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into
wide positions, without the aid
of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out
of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to
get himself in trouble when he
gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out
wide, we've seen pace from the likes
of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play
of Monreal, but none
of these
players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio
of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did
get a bit better during some points in the latter part
of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part
of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature
of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive
players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a
player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out
of position far too many times since arriving and that the
players in front
of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this
player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that,
of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one
of those 3
players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we
get one
of the most committed skill
players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already
of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs
of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a
player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack
of mobility is an albatross around the necks
of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because
of the 5 or 6
players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
It's hardly surprising he has more assists when they have several
players who can score from 20 - 30 yards with much more regularity than any
of our
players can (let alone 5 yards) and he
get's more tap - ins because their
wide players dominate the wings far more than ours do, which could account for his higher shot accuracy.
Pumas have
gotten solid production out
of striker Eduardo Herrera, but their most dangerous
players are their attacking midfielders and
wide men.
offer him to paris,
get him out
of the EPL, as for mahrez, its a downgrade, alexis is a
wide player who is in the top 5 globally.
Are you really naive enough to believe that Wenger would bring anyone into this current locker room that is going to be given a strong voice... have you not been watching, listening or reading about our club for years... Lehman is a blind Wenger follower, which is the only reason he was even considered... just for a second think
of all the strong personalities that have played for this club that have never been seriously considered even though they have expressed legitimate interest in participating in the coaching process... even worse, think
of all the former greats who aren't even allowed on the same pitch as Wenger because they have offered their advice and / or criticism to the infallible one... I dare you to find a manager that has distanced himself from his former
players as much as this man... it's the very reason why only one
player I can think
of has ever returned to play for Wenger and that was Flamini, which was hilarious considering we were desperately looking for a top quality defensive midfielder but Wenger could somehow find no one better than Flamini in the whole
wide world... let's face it this club was simply trying to appease it's disgruntled fans by declaring that Wenger would no longer be given Ca rte Blanche when it came to the backroom staff so they probably asked him to give them a list
of those who he would allow in the locker room... on that list he wrote Lehman, Pires and Bergkamp, likely because the first two are the only former
players who haven't publicly questioned his horrible decision - making and the last one because he won't
get in an airplane
The 28 year old winger doesn't appear to be part
of Brendan Rodgers» first team plans and the emergence
of wide players Suso and Raheem Sterling have all but ended Stewart Downing's Liverpool career before it ever
got started.
I was really impressed with Kolasinac, and i have said a lot
of our goals will be coming from the
players who play
wide in our back five, as long as we use the width
of the field wisely,
players like Kola and Bellerin should be
getting more assist and goals.
Ive only seen us once
getting destroyed out
wide last season with it, so it might depend allot what type
of mood our
players as a whole are in.
players like Ozil always present the fans with a bit
of a conundrum, especially when times are tough... if you look around the sporting world every once in awhile there emerges a
player with incredible skill, like Ozil, Matt Sundin or even Jay Cutler, who have a different way about themselves... their movement seemed almost too lackadaisical, so much so that it seemed to suggest indifference or even disinterest on the part
of the
player... their posture always appears somewhat mopey and they generally have an unflattering «sour puss» expression on their face... for some their above average skills are enough to keep them squarely in the mix, as their respective teams try desperately to find a way to
get the best out
of them visa vie
player acquisitions or the reworking
of tactics... when things go according to planned the fans usually find a way to accept their unique disposition, whereas when things go awry they become easy targets for fans and pundits alike... in the case
of Ozil and Sundin, their successes on the international stage and / or with their former teams led many to conclude that if we surrounded such talented individuals with
players that have those skills that would most likely bring the best
of these
players success would surely follow... unfortunately both the Maple Leafs and our club chose to adopt half - measures, as each were being run by corporations who valued profitability over providing the best possible product on the field... for them, they cared more about shirt sales and season tickets than doing whatever was necessary... this isn't, by any stretch, an attempt to absolve Ozil
of any responsibility for his failures on the pitch... there is no doubt oftentimes his efforts were underwhelming, to say the least, but this club has been inept when it comes to providing this prolific passer with the kind
of players necessary for him to flourish... with our poor man's version
of Benzema up front, the headless chickens in Walcott, the younger Ox and Welbeck occupying
wide positions far too often and the fact that Carzola, who provided Ozil with great service and more freedom to roam, was never truly replaced, the only real skilled outlet on the pitch was Sanchez... remember to be considered a world - class set - up man goals need to be scored and for much
of his time here he has been surrounded by some incredibly inept finishers... in the end, I'm not sure how long he will be in North London, recent sentiments and his present contract situation seem to suggest that he will depart at season's end, but how tragic would it be if once again we didn't put our best foot forward and failed to make those moves that could have brought championship football back to our once beloved club... so when you think about this uniquely skilled
player don't be so quick to shift all the blame on his shoulders because he will not be the first or the last highly skilled
player to find disappointment at the Emirates if we don't rid the club
of those individuals that are truly to blame for our current woes
One wonders what the future holds for the
wide man, he has the ability to make it but maybe he is more likely to develop as a
player if he moved to a club where he is guaranteed a first team start and can then
get a run
of games under his belt.
In the first round
of the draft they
got the top - rated
players on their board at
wide receiver (Roy Williams
of Texas, a burner with great hands) and running back (Kevin Jones, who rushed for 1,647 yards and 21 touchdowns at Virginia Tech last season).
I've asked the question and started to answer it myself — Benzema is better, won't
get a huge amount more goals than OG, if any at all, and will in my opinion take maybe a little off our
wide players in terms
of the runs he likes to make.
licence coach but you don't need that to see what wrong, we have arguably the strongest midfield In the country and a decent back 4 but the way we play doesn't
get the best out
of our
players, I would play a front 3
of Sanchez welbeck and either chaimbo / Campbell Ozil / corzola / Ramsey just behind then Arteta and chambers as DM but when you play ozil or corzola
wide we lose pace and cover for the fullback we have to many
players who play No 10
I really hope Arsene intends on
getting us a CM
player even if having to spend allot
of millions on a
wide - man.
Man city have a squad that we can only dam
of, I'm negative because Im tired
of scraping through and yet paying more than any other fans for my season ticket, im fed up with hearing bullsh!t from our manager, had enough
of losing by embarrassing score lines to clubs that have more ambition than us, Im annoyed at haring about
players that became world
wide successes that Wenger turned down or could have
got but didn't, I hate that there's never any positive news on Arsenal, and most o all I am gutted that we have only on one tropy in ten years and ta its not sowing any ign
of improving but plenty
of signs
of going backyards.
Get a
wide right
player or teach one
of our many
players to stick to the edge
of the pitch a bit more.
At the beginning
of the season I said Arsenal do not need a CF but need to replace Theo on the right,
get a
player who will run to the byline and whip in a cross, a
player to keep the pitch
wide.
In that respect the boss already has one big advantage, as Mbappe has been compared to our club great Thierry Henry and Wenger
gets a lot
of credit for the way he turned the young Henry from a
wide player into one
of the dealiest strikers the game has ever seen.
was reading online somewhere today that barca were willing to let pedro go for about # 15 million this could be a bargain for a quality
player and if corzola (who cost # 18miillion) decides he wants to go next year back to spain we have his ready made replacement in pedro he is hybrid
of sanchez and corzola (great two footed
player) skilled in the barca hard working style and energetic and at 27 he would be at his peak and can score goals from
wide areas we would have added edge to our attacking play if we cant
get reus he would be a great second chioce would be a better investment than aarons me thinks.
Let me know the list
of players who
get 21 goals and 14 assists from
wide this season.
The first goal, how many
of our
players got sucked out
wide because they don't trust Niles or Holding, all one had to do was read the line
of the pass and intercept or else make them cross high.
If your right and Wenger gives Walcott a crack then we know he is the type
of player who will drop out
wide for moments, he was happy to do that in the final with Alexis and
got a goal from it, he can do it on the right and score from their as well.
lol you guys talk lot
of rubbish walcot is ok can you guys tell me how many goals he score last season for a
wide player and for junky merson haven't heard him saying anything nice about arsenal he's
getting like stuart robson
Willian excels at transitions, both from defence to attack, and from attack to defence —
getting back into position is also a key feature
of Mourinho's
wide players.
He's struggled
of late but when you've
got players like Iwobi dribbling past three and not releasing the ball to you because he prefers to drill it
wide, or straight down the «keepers throat, what are you to do?
Unfortunately as is often the Arsenal way we managed to conspire to make the game difficult for ourselves, with a few minutes
of the first half remaining Ox found himself with the ball on the edge
of Everton's area, Hector available to his right and
players closing, if he had managed to
get a shot off first time then we would not have been chasing back towards our own goal five seconds later, instead Ox chose to shoot after a couple
of touches in to a mass
of Everton bodies when there were better options on, the ball broke to Delofeu who managed remarkably to stay on his feet for twenty or so yards before releasing Barkley, Koscielny had been dragged
wide by Lukaku and Ox and Hector were in hot pursuit, they both probably had a chance to take the booking but allowed Barkley to continue, he took a speculative shot which would not have troubled Cech until it took a big deflection off
of Gabriel and drifted into the gaping net.
Mike Brown, Cincinnati's assistant general manager, says he'll try to
get players from the Tampa Bay Bandits and Boston Breakers to even the score for the Bandits» signing
of Wide Receiver Cris Collinsworth and the Breakers» signing
of Tight End Dan Ross to future deals.
Carl Jenkinson did ok, but it might just be me, but he does seem to leave a lot
of space for
wide players to
get themselves in to.
Icardi seems to have been instructed to play very strong with his back to the net, hold up the ball for as long as positive and then distribute out
wide which once again encourages the play down the middle. This very strong central philosophy may not be the most complimentary style to Mauro Icardi's journey to being top goal scorer
of the league but it played such a crucial role in
getting a
wide variety
of different
players on the score sheet instead
of relying on Icardi and Perisic.
After all it's not like we have much to play for in the league and so to my mind the remaining games
of this season should be focused on a) blooding younger
players who could potentially plug gaps — like Reiss Nelson as a possible
wide player, and b) having a go at
getting a settled and sorted team with
players who understand each other's position in readiness for next season.
How did we
get in a position where one
of our most dangerous
players (Antonio) is rarely played in his most effective position (
wide right) and now plays as a lone striker after it was discovered that he wasn't a right back?
