Precisely because of the specialized
nature of pastoral work at this ethnic level, the pastor has peculiar dilemmas.
The theologian Richard Lischer offers a brief meditation that, for my money, ought to be required reading for all seminarians who want their ministries to follow a biblical paradigm - a paradigm that Lischer finds in the ministry of St. Paul to the early Christian gentile churches: a ministry that for all its messiness finds as its center the repeated embodiment of the death and resurrection of Jesus in the daily tosses and
turns of pastoral work with the people of God.
