I was sitting with a friend of mine a few months ago discussing the work
of peacemaking as a central calling to those of us that follow in the ways of Jesus.

When we turn to the other side of the ambiguity we find a church that taught and tried to obey Jesus» commands for peaceful living, even the hard ones; a church that continued resolutely Jesus» peacemaking ministry; a church that meditated deeply and seriously on the meaning of Jesus, and especially of his death and resurrection, for the proper
understanding of peacemaking.1
But if this occurs at the expense
of peacemaking efforts mandated by Jesus that can get at the roots of global terrorism, or costs us the ability to think critically, we will go badly astray.
However much those forms recognized that males were socialized more toward war than were women, they featured an
ethic of peacemaking based on Christian conversion to God's will for peace on earth that was directed to men and women equally.

The work
of peacemaking doesn't just happen on an international, political level; it happens in our neighborhoods.
