You can take it as dark as you like, from pale peanut butter to the color of toffee even, but in this case I left it on the lighter side since it'll be going back in the oven with the brownies (I like to describe it as the color
of peanut butter frosting).
Instead I made a variation
of the peanut butter frosting from my cookbook... with peanut butter, greek yogurt, and powdered sugar.
Using an offset spatula, top each brownie with a layer
of peanut butter frosting and finish with a sprinkle of cracked peanut butter - filled pretzel bites.
I used a large open star tip to pipe large swirls
of peanut butter frosting around the edge of the cake, then topped each swirl with a mini peanut butter cup.
Spread a thin layer of frosting on top of the cake, then pipe a dam
of peanut butter frosting around the edge of the cake layer using a pastry bag fitted with a large round piping tip.
It's almost like a lighter, less sweet version
of a peanut butter frosting.

So, I made a small batch
of chocolate
peanut butter «muffins» and transformed them into a cupcake with a 1 minute
frosting that is so rich and fudgy, I had a hard time believing it actually worked myself!
