of passion leaves the film, well, bloodless.

Julyan has said that the intention was to underscore the anticipation
of magic, rather than the excitement and mystery itself, but I'm not really sure how this
score achieves that - endless synth pads, string noodling, occasional
piano interludes (being very careful to avoid playing anything that might turn into a recognisable melody)- sorry, but what's the point
of all this?
Second, there's Thomas Newman, whose quirky style has been an influence on countless film
scores (and plenty
of other music) in recent years, to the extent that I'm not really sure any more whether it's worth commenting on how similar the sprightly
piano music
of a piece like «Sneaking Out
of the Barn» is to his style - it's so prevalent in so many films, perhaps it's now just become a film
scoring staple.

Taking
scoring into new, avant - garde territory with his brash, impressionistic work for
piano student James Dean on «Rebel Without A Cause» and «East
of Eden» before such experimentally surreal work as «Fantastic Voyage,» Rosenman wasn't a composer particularly known for relaxed melody, which is what makes «Making Love» the true shocker that starts off this soundtrack.
With passion bursting at the seam, and hopelessly hemmed in by not - so book smart intellect, Wadley creates a
score of devastating, elegant subtlety, using the naturally sorrowful violin for all
of its Ivy League tortured worth, along with a gently regretful
piano.

score remains the modern standard for comic book movie

of the three segments and Nicholas Britell's

When combined with William's remarkable
score filled with beautiful
