All animal cells are made up of two genomes, the nuclear genome with 10,000 s
of protein coding genes and the mitochondrial genome with 13 protein - encoding genes.
From one collection of mutations
of protein coding genes, they identified the nuclear components Mlp1 and Mlp2 of the macrocomplex that form the nuclear pores, preserved in all the eukaryotes, including the human ones.
