According to reporting by Reuters, Smithfield began limiting the use
of ractopamine on some, but not all, of its animals last year, with an eye on the Chinese market.
These countries refuse to purchase meat from the United States due to the use
of ractopamine.
Brazil makes HUGE use
of ractopamine (look it up... a couple of years ago we had a BUNCH of meat travelling back from Russia to Brazil because they tested and showed presence
of ractopamine), growth hormones and antibiotics and there is no label requirement to any of these.
Pork: In 2012, Aramark committed to eliminate all pork from animals bred using gestation crates by 2017; it will also work to address issues of pain relief associated with castration and the eventual elimination of tail docking, as well as eventual elimination of the use
