An important trade center, Coba was the hub for a series
of ancient white limestone roads (called
sacbe) that radiate out from the city, like spokes on a wheel.
Fun Fact — Coba has the longest
sacbe, meaning «white road,» that runs about 62 miles (100 km) to the site
of Yaxuna near Chichen Itza.
It's worth the effort though, not only toexplore the site but to uncover other Mayan ruins en route, from the ball court at El Tintal to the temples
of Nakbe and the raised
sacbe (causeways), which the Maya themselves used to travel between cities.
