With its new set
of satnav devices, TomTom has launched the latest range of Go models - the 400, 500 and 600 in their respective 4.3, 5 and 6 - inch screen sizes - with its most advanced navigation system yet.
The PID (basically a bespoke Garmin satnav) pokes out of the dash and allows control
of the satnav, trip vehicle information, Bluetooth connectivity and a media player.
Not exact matches
They develop a love - hate relationship with their
satnav («Katy») and suffer a series
of misadventures — including a ferry ride and a brief encounter with a hedge — all
of which are communicated to Plass via cryptic phone and text messages.
Initially she thought that forgetting things was merely part
of getting old and sought to solve the problem

It turned out that there were major spikes in the activity
of both the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex when the participants encountered giant roundabouts similar to London's Seven Dials or the Magic Roundabout
of Swindon, but those parts
of the brain didn't fire up when the
satnav fed them instructions.
Without the achievements
of those bold pioneers we would today have to do without satellites and numerous other revolutionary applications such as mobile phones, GPS services and
satnav systems.
Again, the suppleness
of the ride is a real boon, the
satnav is superb and the ordinary - looking seats are actually supremely comfortable on a long haul.
As well as the revised suspension, the # 35K GT Edition also bundles together a range
of kit including darkened 19in alloys, side stripes,
satnav and a rear parking camera.
This particular car, kindly loaned to us by evo reader Steve Davies, is a Lux model, which adds
satnav, more leather, xenon headlights, cruise, and a set
of distinctive 19in Alpina Dynamic alloy wheels to the Roadster S inventory.
Automatic lights and wipers, dual - zone climate control, a hands free keycard, parking sensors, a more powerful 4x35W sound system, R - Link multimedia and
satnav, heated leather seats, tinted rear windows and an electronically adjustable driver's seat are all added to its spec list, meaning in total, the Nav receives # 1700
of options as standard.
More than half
of UK - bound Mustangs will feature the Custom Pack — which adds
satnav, a 12 - speaker audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a rear - view camera, Luster Nickel silver alloys and added chrome details on Fastback models.
As well as the touch and voice commands already mentioned - the latter

As the miles slipped by, the only flies that landed in the ointment were the spurious traffic info being picked up by the

of height adjustment for the driver's seatbelt, which bugged Mrs Ev until we found a makeshift solution.
A DAB digital radio is standard fit, while if you pick the optional
satnav and the visual effects
of the Mini's infamously large, «dinner plate» speedo are minimised.
A leather - wrapped roll - cage confirms the car's high - speed intentions, but the addition
of air conditioning, an Alpine in - car entertainment system and optional
satnav are welcome luxuries.
But then it isn't really an Exige at all, more a sort
of Exige / Evora mash - up that forgets all that nonsense about habitability and touchscreen
satnav and instead concentrates on raw excitement, handling accuracy and astonishing performance.
Optional
satnav comes as part
of a touchscreen infotainment display, while another popular option will likely be a two - part panoramic sunroof (it comes as standard on the SZ5).
But upon popping up the
satnav's TMC (Traffic Message Channel) map the following Monday morning, I noticed that it was no longer overlaid with the usual rash
of triangular symbols indicating where that morning's A14 accidents were.
What's not: plasticky
satnav screen sticking out
of the dashboard, soft suspension, power output.
Our car also benefited from the optional (# 1250) CD 70 audio /
satnav system — a fine bit
of kit, both in terms
of its sound quality and its direction - giving capabilities.
So it was a No to all
of the above, thanks, and out with paddleshift gearchanges, out with ceramic brakes, out with
satnav, and in with good old consistent and progressive steel brakes, and in with a proper gearshift complete with a third pedal.
The Premium Plus has all
of that, as well as a Burmester surround sound system and Comand Online with an 8.4 - inch colour display and 3D
satnav graphics.
The significant options are the «Tech Pack» (# 2495), which adds
satnav, Bluetooth, cruise control and parking sensors, the «Premium Pack» (another # 2495), which covers most
of the interior in leather and gets you a chrome «Evora» badge for the facia, and the «Sport Pack» (# 950), which gets you a «Sport» button.
There is, Audi says, over # 10K's worth
of kit on the V10 that's optional on the V8, including
satnav, premium hi - fi and magnetic ride damping.
After a quick blast down the A1 to Piacenza, we jab Bobbio into the
satnav as we head towards Genoa and the north - west coast
of Italy.
For # 600 more there's the SE Nav featuring, you've guessed it,
satnav - with European mapping and three years
of updates included.
And much though the higher trim levels are pleasing, we'd skip the
satnav (it's not one
of the better ones available and it'll be out
of date soon enough) and opt for Feel trim, which nets some funky alloy wheels and aircon.
Inside the cockpit there's luxurious new trim and the arrival
of a touchscreen
satnav system with Google mapping.
The basic price was # 40,020, and we added # 5320 - worth
of Bluetooth, BMW Assist (an «online portal» including Google local search), DAB radio, Harman / Kardon surround - sound, USB audio interface,
satnav, voice control, heated seats with adjustable lumbar support, metallic Valencia Orange paint, tinted glass and folding mirrors.
A DAB digital radio - equipped touchscreen media system is standard fit, and can be upgraded to include voice - activated
satnav and a 30 GB hard drive (# 1505), while a 400W Fender stereo with eight speakers (some
of them ambient lit!)
By the time the
satnav tells me to leave the M5 and hit the last 30 miles
of country roads to Lynton, it's pitch black and a bit drizzly.
The infotainment is simple and easy to use, too: switching between the radio and
satnav — a task you might frequently undertake — requires the press
of just one button.
CDX trim level provides heated front seats, leather seats, cruise control, rear park sensors, and electric windows / mirrors together with a
satnav (this was fitted as an accessory later)- providing plenty
of toys in a spacious vehicle with seven seat option.
You can specify higher power versions
of both engines in the Zetec Edition too, and it's a popular spec with Ford SYNC 3 and
satnav on an 8 - inch touchscreen, cruise control, 16 - inch alloy wheels and power windows and mirrors all featuring.
The
satnav can gin up a split - screen view, with micro and macro perspectives
of the car's location.
The price
of our 3.0 GT started at about $ 29,000 and topped out at $ 35,145 with the $ 6,100 GT Touring Package: a
satnav system on a seven - inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a pushbutton tilt - and - slide sun roof, roof rails, leather seats and a power - operated liftgate, along with the features mentioned earlier — plus a Rockford Fosgate stereo with a big subwoofer and nine speakers that can push out 710 watts
of sound.
The entry - level is called the Jeep Cherokee Longitude Plus and features a wealth
of kit including 17 - inch alloys, 8.4 - inch touchscreen infotainment with DAB, Bluetooth,
satnav and voice command, a 9 - speaker Alpine sound system, rear parking sensors, powered seats, auto headlamps and wipers, stop start, dual zone climate and cruise controls, power tailgate and part - time Active Drive 4x4.
Although you miss out on the leather seats, there are still loads
of goodies including dual - zone air and
satnav.
In terms
of standard equipment, included is this generation is
satnav, a seven - inch colour touch - screen infotainment system, automatic locking doors and boot, cruise control with speed limiter, speed - sensitive power steering, rear parking sensors, power windows and power / folding / heated mirrors.
This car — a Beetle Convertible TDI, Toffee Brown Metallic over Beige Leatherette, $ 29,790 without
satnav — is a rolling bundle
of contradictions.
The
satnav is appalling: its notion
of 800 yards ahead might last for two miles or more, its turn directions came too late and its traffic camera feature didn't work at all, despite my having paid for regular updates.
It has sporty looking bits all over, and a bit carved out
of the dash to accommodate a small Garmin
satnav system, which stows easily in the glovebox when not in use.
