I have spent many hours listening to experienced, qualified teachers from the Adlerian / Shefer
school of thought and the idea
of withholding love or
attachment is not at all part
of their approach.
It is exciting to see this aspect
of Attachment Parenting being incorporated into the
school setting, and to hear the overwhelmingly positive feedback from teachers and students.
There are huge correlations between a child's
attachment style in that first year and what they'll be like in kindergarten, how well they'll get along at camp with peers, even how likely that child is to graduate or drop out
of high
school.
And these elementary -
school skills, in turn, stand atop an infrastructure
of qualities built in the first years
of life, like secure
attachment, the ability to manage stress, and self - regulation.
Nurturing parenting and related practices — like mindfulness, emotion coaching, collaborative work environments, healthy conflict resolution, nonviolent communication, overall questioning the status quo — are coming from all directions, not only from
Attachment Parenting International (API) but also

of maternal mental illness appears as cognitive compromise, insecure
attachment and behavioural difficulties during the preschool and

Developmental reviews are such an important opportunity to ensure best health outcomes across the board from: dental and maternal mental health, parenting and
attachment, to reduction
of obesity, improved diet, and acheiving
school readiness to name a few.
Symptoms include: worry about losing parents or other
attachment figures though illness or death; unreasonable fear
of an event that causes separation (getting lost, say, or being kidnapped); reluctance or refusal to leave home for
school; undue fear
of sleeping or being alone; persistent nightmares about separation; and physical symptoms (headaches, stomachaches) in conjunction with separation or anticipation
of separation.
A sense
of mastery is also very valuable to kids with diagnoses such as reactive
attachment disorder, bipolar, cognitive learning disorders, and autism, says Michael Kaufmann, director

Ensuring that actions to improve infant feeding are included in all

But there are many more fathers who are just as strong
of AP advocates in their everyday lives by choosing to not be shy about talking about
Attachment Parenting, to their friends and family, coworkers, and other fathers at the park, grocery store, kid's ball game, church or
