of school attendance zones on school integregation that have been a great pleasure to see in recent weeks and months.

of greatest desegregation activity.

attendance zone in which the child is temporarily relocated, such child may choose to remain in the public
school building he or she previously attended until the end
of the
school year and for one additional year if that year constitutes the child's terminal year in such building.
This is the closest we have come to realizing the groundbreaking vision
of education innovator Ted Kolderie, who first wrote about the critical nature
of breaking the exclusive franchise
of traditional
school districts holding parents captive based on
zoned attendance.
Whenever the

Districts should shift away from the traditional notion
of a neighborhood
school and redraw
attendance zone boundaries so that they transcend neighborhood lines.

of two or more
schools in order to balance class sizes.
Moreover, the report included case studies
of three
school districts, located in separate areas
of the country, each using different strategies to voluntarily increase racial and socioeconomic diversity, such as utilizing magnet
schools, new student
attendance zones, and
school choice policies.
