The drop off is very scenic with
lots of sea fans and gives wonderful photo opportunities.
Our first dive was in Gorgonias Passage, site formed by a wall full
of Sea Fans where we specially go for find Pygmy Sea Horses In our search we found it Denise, Raja Ampat and Bargibanti Pygmy Sea Horses... not bad at all!
But while diving at several spots on the reef I have felt the current suddenly swing and run better than a knot in the opposite direction, so that, to avoid being carried off the deep side, I had to grab the
base of a sea fan or the encrusted trunnion of an old cannon and hang on.
Temperatures rose by between 1 °C and 3 °C, and in places 80 per
cent of sea fans died (Global Change Biology, DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2486.2008.01823.x).
Currents rich in nutrients and plankton flow over the ridge, resulting in outstanding
growths of sea fans, whip corals and brilliant soft corals.
If you look up, you will double your pleasure as you catch the
reflections of sea fans in the aquamarine mirror of the calm water.
The visibility was unusually good in the south and allowed the light to penetrate for many many meters, illuminating the brilliant colors of the soft coral and
layers of sea fans where we found dozens of pigmey seahorses!
The Wall at the Jemeluk Bay dive site is a series of short, jagged walls dotted with large Barrel sponges and a
variety of sea fans.
Once you swim over the reef edge, you'll descend down the caye wall with its
trappings of sea fans, elongate stove - pipe sponges, and overhanging sea sprays and sea whips.
The reef is predominantly made
up of sea fans, small gorgonians, vase and tube sponges, some small hard coral formations and grasses.
Here you can see
gardens of sea fans and vibrant coral as well as pelagic giants like barracuda, wahoo and the occasional manta or whale shark.
The new dive site is nicknamed THREE CORNERS and is a very good dive, the bottom is around 35m and starts out as white sand & rubble, it then turns into really pristine coral wall with
lots of sea fans and many whip corals as well as lots of hard & soft corals.
