of this dive site is quite

These areas

coral head are dead and silted in, probably due to the
shallow water covering them which allows more sunlight and thus more colonization by algae.
The Soccoro Islands offer little in the way
of shallow sites or colorful
corals and the emphasis is on the larger marine life that congregates near the rocky slopes and pinnacles that rise from the deep water.
He particularly likes the selection
of dive - centric resorts set along the island's calm western coast, where the
corals grow in
shallow water just a few yards from shore.
The sheltered conditions
of these relatively
shallow sites are ideal for divers
of all ages and skill levels, and in addition to a variety
of coral cover and marine life, there is a small plane wreck to explore.
Sadly we also saw a lot
of damage to
shallow corals here.
The
coral mountains
of Columbia are breathtaking, and the
shallow area is full
of life.
The inner coastal waters are
shallow and are sheltered by a line
of coral reefs, dotted with islets called cayes», extending almost the entire length
of the country.
This area offers many
of Turneffe's best wall dives, and there are also numerous
shallow to mid-depth sites that showcase intricate formations
of staghorn, elkhorn, brain and lettuce leaf
corals.
Many
of the islands are popular to visit on daytrips, but unfortunately in several
of the
shallower sites we saw a lot
of coral damage from inexperienced snorkellers stepping on the reef.
