While all that is happening, I warm the refried black beans and toss together a salad - like filling
of baby kale (but you could also use arugula),

Spread 1 tablespoon

fig jam over each

Gooey and toffee - like, but with a tang from the balsamic or raspberry vinegar, these roasted
figs make a beautiful dessert, cosied up with a quenelle
of crème fraiche or soft goats cheese; dolloped onto ice cream (or indeed stirred into ice cream, with perhaps some freshly made pistachio praline, and refrozen); nestled into a sweetcrust pastry along with fresh, broken cobnuts or hazelnuts and
slices of ripest pear.
To assemble quesadillas, place 1/4 cup cheese, 1/4 cup shredded pork with juices, 1/4 cup spinach, 3 to 4
slices figs on half side
of tortilla and fold close.
Any combination
of these five ingredients would be great: thinly
sliced and fried prosciutto, grilled
figs, Gorgonzola cheese,
sliced heirloom tomatoes, charred radicchio.
Drain, squeeze and
slice the
figs, adding them to the last 5 - 10 minutes
of the baking time.

A little
fig jam, a
slice of aged cheese — a delicious little snack.
Using a butter knife or small offset spatula, spread
fig mostarda mixture evenly across 6
slices of bread, working all the way to edges.
The brightness
of the melted goat cheese balanced with the crisp and chewy grill - marked crust while allowing the fresh
sliced figs to standout.
Sweet and delicious,
figs make the perfect pairing for a thin
slice of Prosciutto di Parma — which, by the way, is nitrate - free and low in saturated fat.
Top with
slices of fresh
figs, cut into
slices and enjoy!
Decorate the top
of the cake with thinly
sliced figs and place in freezer to freeze until completely frozen, approx. 2 hours.
Putting a
slice of fig in the middle was a bit
of a gamble, but it stayed tucked inside while the cookies baked.
Alternatively, use fresh
figs as part
of a salad, combining the
figs with fresh spinach, caramelized onions and thinly -
sliced pancetta for a refreshing and nutrient - dense meal.
Although I did not add roasted
figs at the bottom
of the part like Sylvie did (because I ate most
of them while waiting for the crust to chill) I made sure each
slice got at least one piece
of roasted
fig on top.
My version
of it goes like this: 1 - 1.5 cups
of raw oatmeal,
sliced fresh strawberries, blueberries,
figs, dates, rasins, prunes, add fresh blackberries and / or raspberries or whatever fruit you want.
For
fig tarts, arrange
sliced fresh
figs across the top
of baked tart.
Spread
fig jam on 4
slices of bread, and spread honey on the other 4
slices.
The little lovelies are baked in a muffin tin, doused with a buttermilk glaze and topped with a vanilla hard sauce which in reality is a thick vanilla buttercream, plus a
