Bitcoin Core has also taken the approach that bitcoin is simply a settlement layer, and that
most of the small transactions should take place on top - layer platforms, such as the in - development Lightning Network.
The feature «allows large Lightning transactions to be divided into a
series of smaller transactions as they're sent over the Lightning Network, but in such a way that they're automatically joined back together.
In fact they get to charge a separate fee for every transaction that exceeds our balance, and if you make a
lot of small transactions that exceed your account balance you can easily rack up hundreds of dollars in fees — and all of your bank transactions will be overdrafts and incur new fees until you've brought the balance back above zero, which will often not happen until payday.
