Although many will suggest that Robson has a personal vendetta
of sorts aimed squarely at the Grinch
who stole
soccer, that doesn't make his words any less truthful... such tactics are nothing new... in the U.S.this business practice has become so common that even the players regularly use the media to manipulate public opinion (LeBron James did likewise to rally public support for himself and away from his teammate, Kyrie Irving,
who has asked to be traded)... whether for contract leverage or to rally support for or against certain players, this strategy can be incredibly effective at times, but when it misses the mark it can be dangerously divisive... for a close - to - the - vest team like Arsenal to use such nefarious means to manufacture a wedge between the
fans and it's best player (again), is absolutely despicable... for the sanctimonious higher - ups
who demand that it's players adhere to a certain protocol regarding information deemed «in house» or else to intentionally spread «fake» news or to provide certain outlets with privileged information for such purposes is pretty low indeed... no moral high ground here, just a big club pretending to be a small club so that they can continue to pull the wool over the eyes
of a dedicated, albeit somewhat naive,
fan base... so not only does this club no give a shit about it's
fans, this clearly shows that clubs primary interests aren't even
soccer related... for all intent and purposes Kroenke doesn't care if we're a
soccer club or a tampon factory as long as we continue to maximized his investment... stay woke people... great to see more and more people commenting on the state
of the franchise... this club needs to be held accountable for it's actions
It's difficult to blame Ozil for the difficulties he's faced at Arsenal without looking at the big picture... like the
fans, he too was lied to by Wenger... there is no doubt in my mind that he was told by Wenger that he was trying desperately to recreate our earlier success by acquiring players that fit the system he ran when Henry was in his prime... as we know this hasn't happened... in order for Ozl to flourish he needs some speed up front, forwards that can make intelligent runs, a boss in the midfield to compensate for his obvious defensive liabilities and defenders
who can transition from defence to offence quickly and efficiently... much like he had in Real and with the German National squad... unfortunately he ended up on a squad that has a striker
who plays with his back to goal, very few intelligent runs into the box, minus Sanchez, no one to take pressure off him in the midfield, once Cazorla was injured, average defensive midfielders around him, which simply highlighted his lacking defensive qualities and defenders
who lack the necessary cutting edge when it comes to transitional passing... instead
of blaming Ozil, which is simply too easy, especially considering his mopey disposition, we should be asking ownership and / or Wenger why they brought him in if they didn't intend on doing what was necessary to get the best from him... can you imagine Ozil playing with the likes
of Henry, Viera, Petit and Pires, it would be incredibly to watch and even more difficult to stop... so the only thing different between his experiences in Real and with the German team versus his time at Arsenal are the players around him and we all know
who is in charge
of making those decisions, the Grinch
who stole
soccer
SOCCER STAR Sir: On behalf
of all the Italian
fans, estimated at more than 300,000,
who celebrated in the true Little Italy — on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto — after the July 11 World Cup championship game, I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to Clive Gammon for his extraordinary article on Paolo Rossi (Coming Up Roses for Rossi, Aug. 16).
Up front we have a few world - class players surrounded by some serious pretenders... Sanchez is by far the most accomplished player in our attack but the controversy surrounding his contractual mishandling could see him go before the window closes or most definitely by season's end... obviously a mistake by both parties involved, as Sanchez's exploits have never been more on display than in North London, but the club's irresponsible wage structure and lack
of real intent have been the real undoing in this mess... Lacazette,
who I think has some world - class skills as a front man, will only be as good as the players and system around him, which is troubling due to our current roster and Wenger's love
of sideways passing... Walcott should have been sold years ago, enough said, and Welbeck should never have been brought in from the get - go... both
of these players have suffered numerous injuries over their respective careers and neither are good enough to overcome such difficulties: not to mention, they both are below average first - touch players, which should be the baseline test for any player coming to a Wenger - led Arsenal team... Perez should have been played wide left or never purchased at all; what a huge waste
of time and money, which is ridiculous considering our penny pinching ways and the fact that
fans had been clamoring for a real striker for years... finally Giroud, the fact that he stills wears the jersey is a direct indictment
of this club's failure to get things right... this isn't necessarily an attack on Giroud because I think he has some highly valued skills, but not for a team that has struggled to take their sideways
soccer to the next level, as his presence slows their game even more, combined with our average, at best, finishing skills... far too often those in charge have either settled or chosen half - measures and ultimately it is us that suffer because no matter what happens Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke will always make more money whereas we will always be the ones paying for their mistakes... so every time someone suggests we should just shut - up and support the team just think
of all the sacrifices you've made along the way and simply reply... f *** off
The Irish
soccer team will soon arrive for the World Cup with thousands
of peaceful
fans who love a glass and a singsong
I'm so sick
of people telling those
of us
who are disgruntled
fans to relax and give this club time to correct itself... for anyone
who believes that taking a wait - and - see approach is appropriate at this juncture they should take a good long look at themselves in the mirror because they are a big part
of the problem... no other «big» club's
fans would stand for this shit for nearly as long as we have... think about it, we've witnessed a changing
of the guard at every major club in England, Spain, France and Germany in the last several years because those «big» clubs failed to live up to expectations (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG, Chelsea, ManU, ManCity etc...)... for some reason, many
fans have become as fragile as our current manager, believing that there couldn't possibly be a suitable replacement, even though everyone
of these clubs have found multiple replacements and still achieved far more than our club... this mindset has been created by an organization that has been milking it's
fans, telling countless lies (no world class players available) and lowering expectations every since they rolled out the biggest lie
of all: that we couldn't spend because
of the new stadium but once it was paid off we could compete with any team in the world... this organization is rotting from the inside out and if we don't demand that those in charge put
soccer first this despicable behaviour won't end with Wenger's ridiculous 2 year contract... I think the real fear isn't that a suitable replacement doesn't exist, but that this organization is so money hungry and poorly mismanaged that we will sink even lower by choosing our next coach the same way they choose our players, on the cheap... even so, we need to see what mustache will do if left to his own devices so he will have to show his true colours... only then can we purge this club and start anew
no one can be that delusional without having Wenger blood run through their veins... this team has already conceded 2
of 3 in August and you believe we can get 45
of a potentially 52 available points before Xmas... no wonder this club can't seem to take it's
fan - base seriously, albeit I'm sure your assessment would give the Grinch
who stole
soccer a quarter chub... anyways, enough talk about the criminally insane with internet access... we have much bigger fish to fry... like what were the real objectives behind the choices made by our lame duck manager on the weekend
If there is something else at play here though I, along with a lot
of other US
soccer fans who read this site, would surely like to know exactly what it is that has you pushing clearly inferior players over those that are much better.
No matter how you slice it, this admission is reason enough for termination
of both Wenger and Gazidis... this owner,
who has personally poisoned every major sporting organization he currently owns in North America (Rams, Avalanche & Nuggets), has no regard for the concerns
of the
fans, just ask anyone in St. Louis, home
of the once - vaunted «Greatest Show on Earth»... they had to endure numerous losing campaigns under his reign, before suffering the ultimate humiliation, as he moved the team to Los Angeles to quench his seemingly unending financial thirst... do you think it's a coincidence that ever since his arrival both Wenger and Gazidis have made grand claims each and every May to secure season ticket sales then fail to live up to the billing... they will do anything to make money except the very things that would make the most sense from a
soccer perspective: buying a world - class striker since RVP, a Viera - like boss in the midfield and a dominant, physical CB in the mold
of Adams or Sol... let's face it, they didn't even try
We'll take it — especially those
of us here
who have been lifelong
soccer fans, which is a larger group
of people than perhaps anyone expected.
Every such avowal is greeted by loud boos from the British press, which holds, along with the entrenched authorities
of the sport, that the object
of soccer is the entertainment
of the millions
of fans who make it go.
much like when a country can't divulge highly classified information publicly for obvious economic and military reasons, a professional
soccer organization must keep certain things in - house so they don't devalue a player, expose a weakness, provide info that could give an opposing club leverage in future negotiations and / or give them vital intel regarding a future match, but when dishonesty becomes the norm the relationship between cub and
fan will surely deteriorate... in our particular case, our club has done an absolutely atrocious job when it comes to cultivating a healthy and honest relationship with the media or their
fans, which has contributed greatly to our lack
of success in the transfer market... along with poor decisions involving weekly wages, we can't ever seem to get true market value for most
of our outgoing players and other teams seem to squeeze every last cent out
of us when we are looking to buy; why wouldn't they, when you go to the table with such a openly desperate and dysfunctional team like ours, you have all the leverage; made even worse by the fact that
who wouldn't want to see our incredibly arrogant and thrifty manager squirm during the process... the real issue at this club is respect, a word that appears to be entirely lost on those within our hierarchy... this is the starting point from which all great relationships between club and supporters form... this doesn't mean that a team can't make mistakes along the way, that's just human nature, it's about how they chose to deal with these situations that will determine if this relationship flourishes or devolves..
