They are not governments - that kind
of deal - making comes in December (or rather in the glacial negotiating sessions throughout this year), so I see no problem with them having earnest conversations deep into the night about the relative merits
of carbon taxes over cap and trade, or any other issue, that have no
substantive outcome other than to generate more research proposals, newspaper column inches and
comments in well - meaning blogs.
This editorial and other
comments like it over-simplifying the
substantive issues surrounding the hijab crisis in Osun State and the historical background to it (and CAN's infantile reactions) stand in poor contrast with other excellent news coverage
of the issue and public
comments.

Readers will often look past
substantive issues and finish the book, but they won't pick up another book by that author, and they will leave negative
comments, such as, «Some parts were confusing» (a problem with consistency), «The writing was choppy» (a problem with flow within and between paragraphs), «It wasn't well written» (a problem with awkward sentences and possibly other various issues), «I wasn't sure who was saying what» or «The dialogue wasn't that great,» and «It didn't really hold my attention» or «The story was boring» (a problem with telling instead
of showing).
This sub has passed 20k subscribers and I've been encouraged by the increased number
of people posting quality content and leaving
substantive comments.
Not so co-incidentally, they also excluded any
substantive discussion
of the two peer - reviewed
comments (Huybers and von Storch) and the Wahl and Ammann Climatic Change paper (then in press), which remains to this day the most
substantive peer - reviewed treatment

I note that a lot
of the discussion here has moved away from the subject
of press releases, but it's been for the most part interesting and

Blair, pardon me if I seemed to be over-reactive, but if you follow the topic
of climate change for more than a very short while you'll see that all too often the «argument»
of people who disagree with results they don't like is to mount the ultimate personal attack: they try to substitute
comments about an author's personal background for

of modeling choices on emergent properties» aroused an emotional reaction but no
substantive response a few posts ago here from Ken Rice
I think your
comment, which is adversarial rather than
substantive, is likely to make you look foolish in the eyes
of those readers.
As an initial move, I posted a
comment on Troy Master's blog (he also had a post attacking Shindell's paper), in which I pointed out that Shindell's RC piece, far from answering all the
substantive points in my CA post, had simply ignored most
of them.
If anyone can point to a

By the way, it is interesting — and disappointing — that your response complains about the «adjectives» I used, and completely ignores the two peer - reviewed studies on the EROI
of solar and wind that I linked to and excerpted, which were a direct and

comment «regarding EROI and energy needed for our industrial economy».
That is, the
comments and responses would need to be relevent,
substantive and informed to a level appropriate for the scientific discussion
of issue in question.

Marion Boyd's argument is reflected in Omar's
comments: if one does not hold out the possibility
of enforcing a family arbitral award made under Islamic law, at least on some grounds (and she set out a number
of conditions about procedural and
substantive fairness), then those who go to arbitration under that law anyway have no protection in civil law, and the arbitrator has no incentive to conform to our general notions
of fairness.
