«Park Service engineers on our team used over a million hours
of acoustic measurements taken from 492 sites around the contiguous United States.
Hazen BRS Presentation at Quebec SMM 09 This poster presentation gives detailed analyses
of the acoustic measurements of potential cetacean prey species in the study area, as well as physical oceanographic measurements of small - scale water movement affecting prey distribution.

Other tools in the researchers» arsenal were high - resolution tracking, which provided information about how the manta rays used the lagoon habitat over long and short periods
of time; an
acoustic camera, which logged patterns
of the animals entrances and departures from the lagoons; and photo identification / laser photogrammetry — making
measurements from photographs — which provided insight into whether the manta rays were staying in this habitat for longer time periods by tracking their comings and goings.
They employed a broad spectrum
of methods and other
measurement data, including Baryonic
Acoustic Oscillations, which are density waves from the early universe, local
measurements of the Hubble constant, which specifies the universe's rate
of expansion at the present day, as well as a certain group
of supernovae or exploding stars.
In this study, the researchers, in collaboration with Cranfield University and the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC), used
acoustic thermometry to make the
measurement by building an
acoustic resonator and making amazingly precise
measurements of the speed
of sound in argon gas.
These methods are called «
acoustic - phonetic» because they combine
measurements obtained by listening (
acoustic) with the output
of automated sound analysis (phonetics).
Each one
of the 800 barks was characterized from 29
acoustic measurements.
To quantify krill biomass and distribution we used: an integrated MOCNESS [17] for estimates
of krill size and
acoustic target strength; dual EK - 60 fisheries echosounders (38 and 120 kHz, Kongsberg - Simrad) calibrated according to [18] and mounted on a zodiac for fine scale (100 km)
measurements of acoustic volume backscattering; and the ADCP echo intensity to define the meso - scale (101 km) geographic extent
of the krill distributions.
The combination
of temperature dependent micro-Raman and femtosecond reflectivity
measurements allows for a complete decoupling
of the effects
of temperature, geometry, and strain on the
acoustic phonon dynamics [2, 3].
The first special session was organized and chaired by Thomas Weber and Ralph Stephen on «
Acoustic measurements of water column scatterers using multibeam sonar».
Acoustic emission
measurements collected during electrochemical tests, combined with advanced imaging techniques such as transmission X ‐ ray microscopy, provide a window into the internal workings
of battery materials during energy storage cycles.

Recently developed, in - situ techniques for direct volume determination,
acoustic wave velocity
measurements, and x-ray diffraction at HPCAT, along with molecular dynamics simulations, were employed to explore the nature
of the unusual and pressure - tunable, compression and elastic properties.
Generalised linear mixed models (GLMMs) were used to assess the effect
of prosody (dog - directed / adult - directed); content (dog / adult) and content — prosody matching (matched (experiment 1) / mismatched (experiment 2)-RRB- on the
acoustic measurements of stimuli in experiments 1 and 2.
In the majority
of cases, ebullition was measured with funnels or was lumped with diffusive flux via floating chamber
measurements; however, in two studies, researchers estimated methane fluxes via eddy covariance (Eugster et al. 2011, Deshmukh et al. 2014), and in another two studies, researchers estimated ebullitive flux via
acoustic methods (DelSontro et al. 2011, 2015).
Although we did not explicitly address the temporal or spatial resolution
of emission data from each system, it is notable that the few published
acoustic and eddy covariance - based reservoir CH4 flux estimates are quite high compared to the median CH4 flux estimates from less temporally and / or spatially integrated
measurement techniques (figure 1).
He measured each speaker from the same eight locations in his listening room and then averaged each set
of eight
measurements to minimize the effects that the
acoustics of his listening room had on the speakers» performance.
