The
biggest issue looming in my mind as I read the
book was the sticky problem
of student participation.
This
book differs from Two Thousand Kisses a Day, Whispers Through Time, and The Gentle Parent: Positive, Practical, Effective Discipline in that it takes a Christian approach to parenting as L.R. takes on
big names in the Christian child - training sect such as Dr. James Dobson, Tedd Tripp, Gary Ezzo, and Michael Pearl, breaking down their doctrine and reexamining such
issues as spanking, instant obedience, submission, free will, and more in light
of the original Hebrew and Greek texts
of the scriptures.
Then the
book goes more in - depth to introduce the idea
of emotional projects; those
big issues that can be a struggle for children because
of their emotional charge.
I understand the
book's steetmant to be more
of an observation
of a
bigger societal / cultural
issue: people in general, and mothers in particular, have overloaded expectations
of their own time and involvements.

Of course maybe the audience that moves digital will be
big enough for this to not be an
issue, but even so
book publishers and authors will need to compete with movies, games and music much more directly and immediately than they have in the past.
Certainly, Amazon has
issues too, however, the
big traditional publishers, Barnes and Noble, and the group
of literary agents connected to this model have made a very good living from working with a relatively small number
of authors that sell a lot
of books.
