Indie Authors are a tight knit
community but they should remember one thing... without the other members
of the team it takes to polish and finish a
book so it can be
published there would be no
book.

In an age
of rapid technological change in
books and
publishing, why are libraries still vital to their
communities?
JAFFERY: My hope is that Salaam Reads
publishes books that showcase the diversity
of the Muslim
community, both in the U.S. and throughout the world, and also that the launch inspires artists from all kinds
of marginalized
communities to create stories for children.
While these review sites were geared more towards physical products other than
books, such as gadgets that vendors might sell through the Amazon Marketplace, some
of the first complaints from the internet
community about Amazon reviews centered on self -
published authors who were accused
of buying reviews
of their
books.
Smashwords is well known in the
publishing community for their crappy
books, the vast majority
of them have never even been read.
Contrary to most branches
of the
book and
publishing industry, which have remained focused on content distribution, we believe that filtering content, linking relevant contexts, creating a high - quality reading experience, and engendering an active
community around texts are the true added values a reading platform should be able to deliver.
I have a hunch, though, that some kind
of screening process will evolve among
book reviewers, perhaps around some version
of nepotism / networking — either where outlets within certain «elite» lit
communities will begin reviewing talented self -
published people who are also connected with the same
communities — or sufficient numbers
of intrepid bloggers will have the tenacity to weed through the jungle and sniff out the good stuff to review, creating a critical mass
of well - reviewed, non-tradionally
published authors.

January 2010 I started blogging and by the end
of 2012, so we are talking a good couple
of years
of blogging here, I built a speaking platform for myself, I had started podcasting, I was blogging a couple times a week, good
community of people and then boom, the
book offer comes in from a publisher in the U.S. and I didn't go with that initial offer but it made me think very seriously about going back to that goal
of someday writing a
book and so I was introduced to a literary agent and I obviously went the traditional
publishing route with Virtual Freedom but there's nothing wrong with the self
publishing route at all.
