Before diving into the
report and a host
of reactions, positive and negative — along with fresh thoughts expressed to me by both Nisbet and Romm in a group e-mail exchange over the weekend — I'd like to offer a few overarching observations about the
report, the fate
of the climate
bill, American attitudes on
energy and the influence
of environmental and anti-regulatory forces in Washington.
The ACEEE
report shows that we're making real progress in capturing cost - effective
energy efficiencies, which helps reduce power
bills for ratepayers and the need for more costly and less sustainable forms
of energy generation.»
The
report finds that the best way to meet these challenges, while also reducing carbon emissions and lowering electricity
bills, is by aggressively pursuing a combination
of renewables and
energy efficiency.
We've completed an analytic

Unfortunately, while it concluded that individuals who took advantage
of energy efficiency programs reduced their
energy bills significantly, the RGGI
report did not evaluate the impact on residents» average
energy bills.
In his letter to his two colleagues, Mr. Graham said that he was troubled by
reports that the Senate Democratic leader, Harry Reid
of Nevada, and the White House were planning to take up an immigration measure before the
energy bill....
Despite a growing body
of research that has debunked overblown claims
of a green -
energy bonanza,
Bill McKibben, Al Gore, and other luminaries in the mainstream climate movement have been invigorated by
reports like Jacobson's and have embraced the 100 - percent vision.
The New York Times
reported on December 14, 2007 that EEI led the lobbying opposition to a provision in a federal
energy bill that would have required utilities nationwide to produce 15 percent
of their electricity from renewable sources.
This proposal received strong bipartisan support in the
