of School worked with a variety of youth - serving organizations to implement three simple principles — Drink Right, Move More, and Snack Smart — helping kids from diverse communities practice healthy habits now and for a lifetime.
One
of the schools I work with wanted to change that direction.
Some of the schools I work with in Oakland, California, are aspiring to this description of academic discourse in the classroom: «Conversations in whole and small group settings are facilitated by students and consistently involve all students in academic discourse among students.
Obviously it's a very different system and structure from the way that they were taught and because this current school (and a lot
of schools I work with) have quite involved parents, if they don't understand the change or why you're doing it, they can be an obstacle and they can get quite passionate about it and it can impact on the kids coming to school, if their parents are viewing it quite negatively.
Some of the schools we work with run regular evening workshops for parents.
This has been due, in no small part, to Barber's inspirational promotion
of schools working with other schools to take collective responsibility for results.
Many
