My husband and I are obsessed with the idea
of tiny home living.
Not exact matches
Tiny homes are part
of a growing movement among the world - weary to downsize or
live a simpler existence.
My
home was a
tiny studio apartment; I didn't have television; I brought my lunch to work; I
lived off a lot
of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Of course there are other reasons for my sporadic blogging this year: a surprise new baby coming which completely disoriented us, a new book to finish writing (and I will share all about that in January), travelling and speaking all over North America, stewarding the message of Jesus Feminist throughout her first year of life, creating the Jesus Feminist collection with Imagine Goods, a trip to Haiti, new opportunities as a writer, three tinies at home with their own lives and drama and growth and change, remodelling parts of our home, marriage, church, friends, life, work, laundry (oh, can we talk laundry?

I'm in what Madeline L'Engle called «the tired thirties»
of my
life — I'm a wife and a stay - at -
home mum
of three
tinies and my days are spent in predictable rhythms in our small community in western Canada.
This was a full year for our family: Haiti, book writing, book deals, finishing seminary, working, three small
tinies, church, family, friends,
life, change,
home making, blogging, working, all
of it.
While I laboured in our
home to give birth to another
tiny - barely - there - baby that we would not hold in this
life, my burning tears were tasted by a mouth that only spoke tongues for those long hours, my heart somehow in a groaning along with my body, for the joining
of grief and worship and trust.
I am currently in the design phases
of building a
tiny home, which means I need to pare down my
LIFE.
the little nest that we're creating is a mish mash
of books, photography set up and have mercy, kitchen toys that have no
home in the
tiny urban galley kitchen so they spill into the hallway and
living room.
It's equal parts maddening and hilarious because 192 square feet is a
tiny amount
of space for two people, but I've somehow managed to turn it into our bedroom and
living room and kitchen thanks to 1) clever storage solutions from IKEA and The Container Store (ok, and a few Costco boxes that got shoved in the top
of our closet) and 2) a portable cooktop and snack - size refrigerator (both
of which have made eating at
home a breeze).
It's amazing just how much stuff one can accumulate after
living in a space for a few years and how much crap can fit into the
tiniest nooks and crannies
of a
home.
He
lived first in the
tiny town
of Reidville before the family moved to Duncan, a relative metropolis where little more than 3,000 call
home.
Just think about it: if you were trying to balance a very tight budget in an operation which
lives or dies based on how well students accept your food, and if many (sometimes, the vast majority)
of those students came from
