And yet this film feels considerably less a matter of treading water than 2006's somewhat weary Lights in the Dusk — and besides, Kaurismäki recycling himself with panache and conviction can be a hell of a lot more fruitful than many other directors» originality.

The footage in the trailer treads less on Oliver Stone territory (see: Wall Street 2) and seems more reminiscent of an «inspired by real events» story like Shattered Glass.

The real estate urbanity is ripe for ridicule, and it's a shame that more wasn't made of this as The Architect instead treads a predictable path with a textbook love triangle, a requisite quirky charlatan, and other stale placeholder characters (such as Colin's dull and doting parents played by John Aylward and Pamela Reed, so perfunctory they don't even have names), none of which are very likeable.

Many may wish to give the film a spot in their collections too, whether if it's as one of the 1980s» biggest blockbusters, as one of the Walt Disney Company's earliest and most successful Touchstone films, or more likely, as an amusing human drama which provides a unique and compelling take on a cinematically well - tread period of history.
