We
used a single
pad folded flat (birdseye cotton) inside a Flip and it just couldn't hold a full nights worth
of toddler
pee.
What worked for us was
using a
pee pad over a blanket, keeping Rowan's rump positioned off - center on the
pad, laying a cloth diaper over «Willy» when Rowan played face up, and having one
of us be Willy cover monitors (I assume with girls this step is not necessary).
They're square patches
of astro turf type grass, and some
use actual real grass, and they're
used in the same fashion as
pee pee pads.
If you catch your puppy in the act
of having an accident indoors, clap your hands loudly to stop him and immediately take him outdoors or to his
pee pad, depending which house training method you have chosen to
use.

Pee -
pads — If you have house trained your Yorkie to go outside to urinate and defecate, it can not know out
of a sudden how to
use pee -
pads.
He gets along well with dogs
of all sizes and is working on house training and
using pee pads.
The thing is that after two or three weeks at home, when he got all his vaccines, we started to leave the backyard door open for him to go out whenever he wanted to and we walked him several times a day so he never had the need
of using the
pads again, the problem is that he got so
used to doing his business outside that he forgot what the
pee pads are for (he sometimes even takes his naps on them) and when we leave him alone (usually not more than 4/5 hours a day) he does his business all over the house, even when we leave some «strategic»
pee pads here and there.
To help prevent accidents, place a piece
of linoleum or plastic sheeting under the inside
pee pad until your puppy gets
used to going in one
of his two designated spots and doesn't have accidents.
I had some
of the same problems with Matilda, you may want to
use two
pads for now to give him more space to
pee or poo.
He
use to do really well on the wee wee
pads but now he
pees on the edge or near it instead
of on it.
I have to be honest, though, since your set up with the
pee pads seems to work for you, I'd be hesitant to change anything since he has such a unique way
of using the box you have!
Instead
of newspaper, you can
use a dog
pee pad or the Wizdog, a device consisting
of a tray with a grate that keeps your dog from tracking his mess through the house and makes for painless disposal
of the newspapers and waste.
The old standby is just several sheets
of newspaper laid out on the floor, or you can
use absorbent potty
pads (also known as puppy
pads or
pee pee pads) from the pet store.
