of volcanic glass in a cave that might be from an eruption that occurred in Indonesia nearly 70,000 years ago.

Because this crust contains considerable amounts
of volcanic glass, understanding what changes the glass is important.
Based on the existing age model (24), we targeted a search for cryptotephra (subtle horizons
of volcanic glass shards not visually apparent or detectable using remote sensing methods) on the depth interval of 20 — 40 m below lake floor (MBLF) in drill sites MAL05 - 1C and MAL05 - 2A in search of the YTT.
The number
of volcanic glass shards (shards / gram of sediment) was counted in 10 - cm (gray bars) then 1 - cm (black bars) depth samples.
The pressure of the ice sheet constrains the lava flow, and glacial meltwater chills the erupting lava into fragments
of volcanic glass, forming mounds and ridges with steep sides and flat tops.

of volcanic glass) but no Pele.
Not exact matches
In 2013, Corrado Cimarelli, a volcanologist at the LMU University
of Munich, re-created
volcanic lightning in his lab by pushing dust into a small
glass tube at extremely high pressure.
The entire cliff would have been deposited very quickly from a fast - moving current
of hot gas and ash (a pyroclastic density current), and the extreme temperatures (900-1000 °C) caused the ash to weld to the ground and effectively enameled the area in dense
volcanic glass.
That view began to change in 2008, when researchers found water inside tiny spheres
of lunar
volcanic glass.
Air bubbles collect and explode at the surface
of many viscous liquids, as observed with polymer foams, in
glass furnaces, and during
volcanic eruptions.
Obsidian, naturally occurring
volcanic glass, is smooth, hard, and far sharper than a surgical scalpel when fractured, making it a highly desirable raw material for crafting stone tools for almost all

of the lunar surface.
«The combination
of water and halogens found in the
volcanic glasses enables us to preclude local seawater contamination and conclusively prove the water in the samples was derived from the mantle,» Dr Kendrick said.
