The sweet sticky figs complemented the salty melted cheese and the crunch
of walnuts added another dimension to the texture.

of the originals, but I always follow the original basic recipe, and vary only the
add - ins (

I've made it twice and skip the bourbon,

of molasses (which gives it a nice dark, rich colour) and a handful or two
of walnuts.
I did substitute bourbon for Chivas Regal and when I have them available I
add 1/4 or so
of pecans or
walnuts, it tastes fab.
Give your bread new varieties by
adding walnuts, dried tomatoes, olives, sesame seeds, pine nuts or a mixture
of nuts, oats and raisins, dried figs, small chunks
of bacon, etc..
Rather than sticking to a basic savoury flavour, I decided to make a new version
of my beloved banana bread by
adding bananas,
walnuts, cinnamon and a touch
of agave nectar.
Remove from heat,
add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 12 ounces
of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup
walnuts, stir until the chocolate is fully melted and everything is combined.
I left out the white sugar and
added a half cup
of walnuts to the batter and sprinkled some
walnuts on top before baking.
I never thought
of adding walnuts, cumin or pickle juice though.
