Paul Ferley, assistant chief economist at RBC, expects positive results for
consumer spending in the quarter overall (up an annualized 2.8 % in Q2 from a
weaker Q1), but noted that retailers are still dealing with modest levels
of spending by households.
At the start
of the third quarter
consumers eased off on
spending at department, electronics and furniture stores as retail sales stalled in July, marking the
weakest performance in six months, Commerce Department figures showed yesterday in Washington.

of 1997 (Graph 10).
The Australian market is the largest and most stable market
of Australian beef and lamb, though it was impacted by
weaker consumer confidence and
spending on meat in 2011.
Global brewer Heineken has produced a strong first half performance but remains cautious on the development
of beer consumption in Europe and the US due to continued
weak consumer spending and planned austerity measures across many countries.
The BoJ aims to meet its 2 % inflation target; reaching that target has been delayed due to
