As you swim towards the sandy areas on the periphery of the reef, resident species
of wrasse and hogfish, can be seen going about their business.
Wall diving from 40 - 60 ft offers the chance to see all kinds of rays, turtles and rivers
of wrasse swimming along stunning coral structures.
As well as the usual mid-sized reef fish like butterflies and angels, there are all manner
of wrasse,
The reef is made of such interesting architecture it seems to have been designed by a mastermind: expanding fans, rolling brain coral, color dappled arches, rivers
of wrasse, swim - throughs shimmering with tiny glittering silver sides can simply be summed as magical.
They are a type
of wrasse (Family Labridae) and can weigh as much as 20 pounds.
Halvorsen says that annual hauls
of wrasse by Norwegian fishing crews have soared in recent years, from less than 2 million in 2008 to 22 million last year, supplying a country that is the leading producer of Atlantic salmon.
A mixed pavane
of wrasse, grunt, and goby maneuvers beside us, plucking late lunch from pockets of stone.
Not exact matches
She presented captive pairs with artificial «clients» — actually plexiglas plates — that carried two pieces
of prawn, which the
wrasse love, and either four or eight fish flakes, which they don't like as much.
But the
wrasse have a serious conflict
of interest.
In Norway, more than half the supply
of another cleaner fish — called lumpfish — comes from hatcheries, although the species are easier to breed in captivity than
wrasse.
Such hatcheries are being developed in Scotland — another major producer
of farmed salmon — but they are not yet at a point where they could replace
wrasse caught in the wild.
Small fish called
wrasse painlessly peck sea lice from the skin
of farmed salmon, enabling salmon farmers rely less on powerful pesticides that can harm other marine life.
Wrasse consume many molluscs and crustaceans, and play a key role controlling populations
of sea urchins that can deplete seafloor kelp forests — vital sanctuaries for many marine species including young cod.

of our bigger species — a big Napoleon
Wrasse decided to come and check them out at the safety stop on the final dive
of their course.
During the 30 minute «Snorkel Safari» you'll learn how the reef was formed, how coral feeds, grows and breeds as well as seeing some very special inhabitants - from parrotfish to magnificent anemones, cleaner

of course, anemonefish (nemo!).

wrasse, box fish, cardinal fish, perch, chub, trigger fish, the former Hawaii State Fish Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, goat fish, snapper, porcupine fish, hawk fish, jacks, mackerel, cornet fish, needle fish, turtles, crustaceans, and invertebrates.
Here's just some
of the marine life I've seen at Molokini: Butterfly fish, parrot fish, damsel fish, surgeon fish, moorish idol, tang,
wrasse, squirrel fish, soldier fish, perch, chub, trigger fish, the former Hawaii State Fish Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, goat fish, snapper, hawk fish, jacks, emperor fish, big eye scad, cornet fish, needle fish, eels, crustaceans, invertebrates, and reef sharks.
Under the surface
of the waves, you'll find a veritable aquarium: king angelfish, cortez sea chubs, giant damselfish, rainbow
wrasse, octopus, pufferfish and sea cucumbers.
If you have more time, you can add some additional underwater adventures such as a visit to the walls on the ocean side
of the reef, an exploration
of coral caverns, or a stop at a dive site where freshwater springs bubble up from the reef, attracting Napoleon
wrasse and sea turtles.
Divers can discover anything from small finds such as anemonefish, pipefish and shrimp / goby pairs to turtles, rays, groupers, Maori
wrasse and several species
of shark, including reefs, white tips and bronze whalers.

In the lagoon between the reef and the island, small barracuda, jacks, grunts, flounder,
wrasse, puffer type fishes and eels live amidst schools
of small minnows.
After sweeping over a sandy field
of garden eels, we peel out over the wall into swarms
of yellowtail snapper and Creole
wrasse; a dozen beefy grouper trail along after us.
Schools
of creole
wrasse are common.
This was a beautiful reef with pristine coral and plenty
of large grouper and
wrasse.
Giant Clams and Giant
Wrasse are just two
of the many varieties
of marine life that can be found at Blue Pearl Bay.
It offers crystal clear waters and huge colorful schools
of creole
wrasse and yellowtail snappers hanging out at cleaning stations.
Critters here can include eagle rays, turtles, lobsters, nurse sharks, and schools
of blue
wrasse in mid water.
There is also a multitude
of other fish life here, most notably giant trevally and Napoleon
wrasse.
Through the 12 dives we did (max
of 17 possible), the following were encountered: spotted eagle ray, barracudas (one was 3.5 ft), angel fish (many varieties), parrot fish (many varieties), jacks, snappers (many varieties), sergeant majors,
wrasse (many varieties), rock beauties, butterfly fish, damselfish, blue chromis, trunkfish, moray eels (couple
of varieties), blue tangs, doctor fish, flying fish (on the Blue Hole trip), grunts, graysby, basslets, puffers, gobies, file fish, turtles, flounders, lobster, banded coral shrimp, lettuce leaf slug».
Movement and additional color are provided by crowds
of blue chromis, sergeant majors and blue - headed
wrasse that glide over and through the corals.
Shallower sites in this region feature groves
of staghorn, elkhorn and brain corals, covered in schools
of blue tangs,
wrasse, grunts, and snappers, and harboring queen angelfish, parrotfish and spotted trunkfish.

Wrasse, spectacular coral formations, a myriad
of tropical fish, turtles and reef sharks all might make an appearance.
Large areas
of plate coral with fields
of blue staghorn, schools
of Batfish, Giant Maori
wrasse, moray eels, and an abundant variety
of tropical fish.
Fiji lives up to this reputation as the «Soft Coral Capital
of the World», it's famous for the dazzling corals and diverse marine life ranging from barracuda, grouper,
wrasse, sharks, mantas and eagle rays.
There is spectacular fish life with Trevally, Coral Trout, Snapper and a host
of smaller marine life as well as Giant Maori
Wrasse and a two metre long Giant Queensland Groper that usually congregate for a free...
A dramatic wall starts at depths
of 10 feet and plunges to more than 200, but even more impressive are the huge schools
of jacks that blanket the wall in a living curtain, and the numerous grouper and large
wrasse that congregate at cleaning stations.
Or those impossibly large Napoleon
wrasse that we used to frequently encounter on our diving trips
of yesteryear?
Get your camera ready for shots

wrasse, snappers, sweetlips, barracudas, jacks and colourful parrotfish.
Thousands
of schooling Creole
wrasse, many varieties
of hamlets and the white - spotted toadfish can often be found here.
Across the top
of the colourful coral covered peaks there is a good chance
of Napoleon
wrasse, hunting trevallies and manta rays.
Though the soft corals and fish diversity are not quite as good as some
of the other Andaman Sea destinations in Thailand, you will find fish species here that you won't see in the Similan Islands, such as Napoleon
wrasse, yellow - masked angelfish, bumphead parrotfish, tomato anemonefish and barramundi, as well as lots
of turtles.
The marine life is more diverse there with Napoleon
wrasse, turtles, large cube boxfish, clown triggerfish, schools
of batfish, yellow goatfish, palette surgeonfish, blue - faced angelfish and bannerfish.
On the main body
of the reef you will find gray angelfish, blueheaded
wrasse, spotlight parrotfish and porkfish.
And the underwater world
of the islands is truly magnificent: parrotfish, angelfish,
wrasse and barracuda, nurse sharks, dolphins and sea turtles.
Over the course
of today you'll go to three different snorkelling sites on the Great Barrier Reef, where you'll see sights such as clownfish, sea turtles, humphead Maori
wrasse (an enormous, large - lipped fish that's very friendly), soft and hard corals in colours such as turquoise, neon pink, soft purple and bright orange, schools
of parrot fish, reef crabs, barracudas, painted lobsters, Gorgonian fans, giant clams and maybe even a reef shark or two - don't worry, they're harmless.
You may see a huge shoal
of Maori
Wrasse, or even a «fever»
of Parrot fish!
Keep your eyes peeled for Sea Turtles, Maori
Wrasse, Nemo and an abundance
of colourful and friendly tropical fish that can be found swimming on the shores
of the main beach.
You might snorkel past a sea turtle, over giant clams, see shoals
of brightly coloured reef fish and swim with a friendly humphead Maori
wrasse.
