To make the pumpkin stems, I stained some wood shims that I found
at our
local hardware store a dark stain, then used my jigsaw to cut the ends
off to give a more rustic, ripped from the vine look.

at 16 ″ o.c..
To finish them
off, I bought L brackets that you can find
at your
local hardware store and had our contractor apply them to the edges for me.
If the finish comes
off easily, we recommend trying a sealing binder primer before you apply the paint, such as XIM 400 White Primer Sealer Bonder or whatever is recommended for paper veneer
at your
local hardware or paint
store.
