The majority of credit cards I discuss on here
offer you bonus points / miles for spending in certain categories, such as hotels, gas, groceries, entertainment, etc..
It, however, doesn't
offer you bonus points when you add on an authorized user and make a purchase in the first three months (that's worth 5,000 points with the IHG ® Rewards Club Select Credit Card).
Most airline and hotel co-branded cards

offer bonus points / miles; and Air Canada wants you to stop over in Toronto on them.
What's more, a number of the best travel rewards cards will
offer bonus points or miles for gas station or other travel - related purchases.
There are over 200 partner merchants that
offer bonus points per dollar spent.
A quick word about store and retail cards before moving on: If one of these cards offers rewards, and it can be used outside of the store its branded with, then it may also
offer bonus points in a variety of categories.
QuicksilverOne does not
offer any bonus points for signing up for the card, which is a bit disappointing, especially considering that it has an annual fee.
The Frontier and Southwest cards only
offer bonus points for purchases made with their respective airlines.
Citi credit cards even
offer bonus points on entertainment purchases (e.g. movie tickets, concert tickets, etc.).
The better cards
offer bonus points in certain categories of purchases.
They'll often offer a reduced fee, waive it entirely,
offer you bonus points in exchange for paying the fee, or offer to shift you to another card where you can continue earning points without paying the fee.
Most of them will
offer you bonus points or miles for making purchases that fall into certain categories.
Many of the partnering car rental companies will
offer bonus points throughout the year that can earn even more points per rental.
While most co-branded airline cards, like the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature and the British Airways Visa Signature, earn only one mile per dollar on all purchases except those made with the carrier itself, most general rewards cards, like Chase Sapphire and the Amex Premier Rewards Gold card,
offer bonus points for a variety of purchases.
