Having the option to transfer points over to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is a nice bonus as Singapore Airlines has a habit of
offering better award availability to its own rewards program members than it does to members of its airline partners» programs (United MileagePlus, Lufthansa Miles & More etc...)

United Airlines may not have many cabins that one would call aspirational (The latest Polaris seats on the 777 - 300ER are nice but there's hardly any of them in service) but it

better award availability than American Airlines and requires considerably fewer miles for premium cabin
awards than Delta — that makes it a valuable transfer option to have.
On top of this the A380
offers more Business Class seating than the 777 (
good for
award availability) and the Economy Class product is more comfortable - its a win all round.
Different transfer partners
offer more value than others, usually because they have cheaper
awards, lower fees, or
better award availability.
Some of the
best include the following: United Airlines, which opens up access to the huge Star Alliance network of carriers; British Airways,
offering great value on short - haul nonstop flights due to their distance - based
award chart; Korean Airlines, with amazing
award availability in their first class cabins; and Hyatt, which is widely recognized as
offering some of the highest value point redemption opportunities of any hotel chain.
Virgin Australia
offers the most
award availability in business class between the U.S. and Australia, as
well as the
best routing.
With that much lift between the two cities, travelers should have a
better chance for more
award seats this summer (especially on Air France, which seems to
offer more
award availability than Delta on this route).
And there's really one primary use of their miles — that's that Singapore
offers much much much
better award availability on their own flights for their own members.
They do partner with Virgin Australia, and that airline
offers good business class
award availability to Australia.
Singapore also
offers discounts and
better award availability on
awards when you use Krisflyer miles instead of miles from other programs.
The two challenges are that they're a member of Skyteam, so their partners aren't as
good and don't often
offer as
good award availability as some of their competitors, and also that you have to deal with the idiosyncrasies of Korean — rules like only redeeming your points for family members.
