That food
shortages are caused
by market inefficiencies, not the underlying reality of climate change and the broken model of
oil dependent, non renewable industrial agriculture.
The Green New Deal includes policies and novel funding mechanisms that will reduce emissions contributing to climate change and allow us to cope better with the coming energy
shortages caused
by peak
oil.
Before we act on that sentiment, (and let me be clear that we will be using less
oil in the future, whether
by choice,
by supply
shortages, or a combination of these), we need to get our priorities straight.
The outlook for manufacturing employment is not as positive as the rest of the economy, affected
by weak export markets, the continuing downturns in steel,
oil and gas — and
by skills
shortages.
