If I wasn't a Gundam fan, Gundam Reborn would have gotten boring fast since the main gameplay is very shallow - you're just constantly fighting through wave after wave of the same type of
enemy and it can get
old pretty
quickly.
The game suggests that slow, measured strikes do the most damage, and this is completely true, but since the game insists on throwing arse - loads of
enemies at you this concept
quickly gets chucked out the window and replaced with the good
old - fashioned method of going bloody ballistic and just hacking away at absolutely everything until it dies.
Despite load times being reduced so much so that you're no longer able to practice combo's between chapters, like you could in
old versions of the game, you'll meet with enough
enemies at both ends of the difficulty spectrum, that you'll
quickly find your own way of ending battles.
Fighting off waves of
enemies and a boss is fun for a bit, but it can get
old quickly, as can the races scattered across the map.
It's also very easy to interact with the environment, with well time jumps off scenery bounding players
quickly in directions that allow you to outmanoeuvre
enemies in a very satisfying manner.This persistent freedom of movement is not quite as developed as games like Brink, Mirror's Edge or Titanfall, but offers enough to make gameplay feel more akin to shooters of
old where dodging bullets took priority over taking cover.
