When we were redoing our kitchen we managed very well in the pantry / laundry room with
our old frig, an electric fry pan and a toaster oven that broils.

old (but not outdated) but had been stored in a foodsaver packet in the
frig.

I once had to call poison control after my then toddler (now 25 - year -
old) climbed up on top of cabinets and the top of the
frig and got a nearly - full bottle of vitamins.
Perhaps as we get
older we are less keen to lose the food in the
frig when the lights go out.
The biggest GHGs reducer was our SunFrost
frig (see http://www.sunfrost.com) in 1990, which uses 1/12 the electricity of our
old clonker.
I suppose my problem is, after I close my laptop, trying to muster some excitement over my very nice yet 10 year
old remodeled kitchen (with a
frig that is a ticking time bomb and doesn't match the dishwasher we replaced a few years ago) and my 20 year
old living room furniture.
