Honestly give me paperwhite guts in a package the size of an oasis without the funky form factor or requiring the case for decent battery life, keep the page press buttons like the oasis or
my old kindle keyboard and I would run out and buy one today.

Amazon used to advertise this on screensaver images for
older Kindles, like the Kindle
Keyboard, but they don't seem to bring much attention to it anymore.
I have an
old Kindle keyboard that has two speakers on the bottom and a headphone jack on top, never used it myself except once to see hear what it did, but don't remember how to make it work; I think it had something to do with certain keys pressed on the
keyboard to make it function... so Amazon started out selling the
kindle with the ability for sound and then they taketh it away and now they're selling that ability for $ 20... simply amazing
I own a
Kindle Keyboard that still works really good, but recently was looking to upgrade only to discover that
Kindle does not have an e reader that supports my ebooks and audible books like my
old kindle.
Some have touchscreens; others (like the
older and cheaper
Kindles) have miniature
keyboards.
This new policy mostly applies to
older Kindles like the Kindle
Keyboard and Kindle DX since Amazon removed the ability to browse the web over 3G on the Kindle Touch, and there's no 3G option for the Kindle 4 at all.
While the two remaining
older models of
Kindles (the Kindle
Keyboard and the Kindle DX) contain 4 GB of storage space, they also have the ability to store and play audio files in the form of Audible books and MP3 files which which can use up a significant amount of storage space.
Since there is a very slight delay in on - screen response to input (barely longer than the similar delay when using the physical
keyboard on
older Kindles) it can be slightly strange at first, but that fades quickly with continued use.
The screen is the same size, but since it is «touch» controlled rather than having a
keyboard, the actual size is smaller and lighter weight than my
old kindle.
I knew this
kindle wouldn't work with color, but when the
old kindle with
keyboard supports these new books, you would think the newer
kindles would as well.
The biggest difference between
old and new is that all three 2011 e-ink
Kindles ditch the physical
keyboard (although the company is calling the older, still - available versions «Kindle Keyboard&
keyboard (although the company is calling the

Keyboard»).
I used an
old Kindle
Keyboard until a stray pen in my backpack broke its display, and I've long happily used a Paperwhite without so much as considering the fancier
Kindles Amazon has released since I got it back in 2013.
This is not a claim for the overarching superiority of the
older Kindle
Keyboard or even the equality of the Kindle 4 (there is a reason that it is priced lower than all the other
Kindles).
