Some builders, architects,
and real estate pros have said
dining rooms are a thing of the past — a relic of
older homes, like avocado green
kitchens and shag carpeting.
Under my guidance, we implemented several cosmetic changes that included drywalling a wall to create a formal
dining area, opening up a wall between the
kitchen and great
room, turning an
old laundry
room into an office, drywalling an
old atrium
room that had no prior heat source
and creating a «rec
room,» changed the interior lighting, changed the exterior
and interior paint colors, did full staging job,
and substantially changed the landscaping.
We had our
old sofa
and chair -
and - a-half positioned like that
and we didn't like the way it blocked off the
room from the
dining area
and kitchen.

rooms and no open concept between the

room and dining room,
and painted lots of
rooms.
With one wall removed, the
old dining room was absorbed into the new
kitchen, creating an open feel
and making
room for a long
kitchen island.

Old and New To increase the small home's living
and entertaining space without altering the original facade, the team added a 730 - square - foot great
room to the rear of the house, which accommodates a larger living
and dining area,
and an updated
kitchen.
During our
kitchen remodel last summer, I actually got sentimental as Paul
and the boys took the «
old green wall» down between the
kitchen and the
dining room.
