old vine Zinfandel located just outside of the Santa Rosa city limits in the Russian River Valley AVA.
This purchase reinforces Seghesio's commitment to farming and
producing world - class Zinfandels from
old vine vineyards in Sonoma County.
And just as Hobbits are sturdier than they appear, so are the
old vines that
produced this red, which have endured for decades to survive - and flourish - against all odds.
Our mission is to
produce a terroir driven Napa wine of the highest possible quality sourced from impeccably farmed
old vines with a focus on balance, complexity, concentration and ageability.
Old vines don't automatically
produce better wine than young, of course.
This includes renewed interest in dry farmed
old -
vine Carignan and using natural - rootstock Cabs and Syrahs that are
producing wines that haven't been seen in the world since the 1870's.
Inspired by the ancient «Vino Pùcinum» from the region where modern day Prosecco is made, PVXINVM («pook - see - num») is
produced from 100 % Glera grapes which are hand harvested from 40 - 50 year
old vines.
The main exports are Tannat or Tannat blends and vineyards in Uruguay have begun to distinguish between «
old vines» — descendants from the original cuttings brought over from Europe — and new clones being
