Men are more likely to have sleep apnea than
women; other risk factors include being
older, being a
smoker, drinking alcohol or using sedatives, and having a thick neck and / or narrow airways.
Compared with nondrinkers,
women who consumed a greater amount of alcohol were significantly
older, more likely to be white, current
smokers, postmenopausal, and hypertensive and had slightly lower baseline BMI (Table 1).
