When we redid our (tiny) master bathroom, I found a perfect little,
old wood cabinet to sand, stain, and cut up to become our vanity.
It rests on
an old wood cabinet that was made using an antique iron section of fence for the cabinet door (one of my favorite NH antiquing finds!).

We tried to salvage what we could of our

cabinets a creamy white, I'm finding that I can tolerate my
old oak
cabinets more now because the warm
wood is needed (just not so much).
I loved the project where you covered up those
old cabinet fronts with slats of

As soon as we closed on our house, we started several projects immediately — we replaced our roof, removed the scruffy edges on the extra carport (aka «winnie hole»), added hardwood (red oak) floors in the living room, dining room, kitchen / den, and laundry room to match the floors in the back half of the house, screened and recoated the hardwood floors in the back half of the house, replaced the two sliding glass doors from the kitchen / den out onto the porch with French doors, removed doors between the kitchen and dining room and between the den and entry way, painted the
wood panelling in the den, painted the
cabinets in the kitchen, replaced the
old cabinet hardware, replaced the sink and range / hood, replaced a single wall oven with a double one, added granite tile kitchen countertops, added a beadboard backsplash, replaced a few light fixtures, added a chair rail in the dining room, added crown moulding in the living room and dining room, and painted lots of rooms.
I like the soft colors in combination with the green plants, the
old wood of the vintage
cabinet in the living room and the dark floors.
I grew up in a very nice
old house, but the
cabinets were very plain flat
wood that had been painted mustard in the 70's.
I also redid the ugly
old maple
cabinets and turned them into a barn
wood look.
I love the
older elements of my house, won't be painting my original
wood trim or maple shaker
cabinets, and don't believe in ripping out finishes that are still in good shape.
