I have preached for years on the value of feedback as I have worked with teachers to deepen their practice
on authentic learning experiences, project - based learning, inquiry learning, design thinking, and other similar pedagogical approaches.
Since I wrote a book

Embedded with these concepts are interdisciplinary themes of the past, present, and future, that include
authentic, hands -
on experiences, student driven and designed service
learning projects, regional and global environmental and demographic awareness, and written communication projects based
on exploration, research, and debate.
Authentic assessments, in contrast to traditional assessments that are more focused
on the recalling of facts, can be effective ways to immerse learners in a deeper level of
learning by requiring them to show what they know and what they can do with the knowledge they have gained in their
learning experience.
This model focuses
on four key areas: (a) providing
authentic supervised training and
experience for teacher candidates and new teachers; (b) enhancing PK - 12 student achievement including diverse student populations, (c) serving as a site for professional development of teachers, and (d) supporting research and inquiry about teaching and
learning (Clark, 1999; The Holmes Group, 1990; Love et al., 1996).
With increasing city - wide / state pressures and our growing dependence
on technology, these types of
authentic learning experiences are becoming more of a rarity in schools.
The CARE program is characterized by hands -
on learning and working closely with PK - 12 faculty to give candidates an
authentic, real - world
experience.
Authentic learning experiences usually include hands -
on practice and pedagogy - focused
learning content and are situated in school contexts.
Our efforts with preservice teachers have particularly focused
on providing the best
experiences that allow them to engage a multitude of variables within
authentic learning contexts.
This creates opportunities for deeper or more
authentic learning than traditional «skill and drill» instruction, because community - based
learning draws
on students» prior knowledge and
experiences, engages them in problem - or project - based instruction, and helps them see the connections between academic content and real - world contexts.
In 6th grade, students have an

on Fridays, students have Expeditions, where they are provided with
