Kelsey puts it (compare, e.g., RPIPS, especially 106 - 15).

on the Greek paideia, «culturing,» «character formation,») and «Berlin» (based
on the German Wissenschaft, «orderly,» «disciplined critical research,» «professional») represent two very different — and ultimately irreconcilable — models of excellent education.
