Smartphone - utilizing VR headsets have come a long way in recent years, and now the Google Daydream platform is leading the charge
on VR for the everyman.
In an interview with New World Notes, a blog focused
on VR and virtual worlds, Rosedale argues that blockchain technology is well suited to social VR payment systems.
Some rumours indicated Google was working
on a VR headset that was capable of running without a smartphone.
With X Labs apparently losing steam
on VR, the latest report notes that Google is still focused on a standalone VR headset — it's just not married to a proprietary or different operating system.
The same will be true for HTC, Oculus and Sony
on the VR front.
The browser will work
on VR and AR hardware, although there's no immediate release date.
Just to be clear, other non-Pixel phones that support Daydream VR include Motorola's Moto Z and Moto Z Force, Huawei's Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 9, and ZTE's Axon 7, which could be considered the affordable way to get in
on the VR action at $ 400 a pop.
It seems like much of the gaming community is still not sold
on VR, however, and understandably so.
With the continued focus
on VR, you can also expect some more additions targeting better VR experiences for users, most of which will be courtesy of the AI - based Snapdragon 845 processor.

As Google pushes further into AR with new software on its phones, it's also doubling down
on VR with upgraded hardware.
The controller is clever, and something I'd like to see replicated
on all VR headsets.
Google's push
on VR also took a step forward thanks to Lenovo announcing the Mirage Solo, a standalone Daydream headset.
If you'd rather drop your cash
on VR headsets than luxurious monitors, Computex delivered, thanks to the Vive.
Just keep in mind that the Gear VR does not yet employ positional tracking though, so there are some unique differences in the feel of using one of these headsets versus using a full -
on VR system.
On the VR front, the 835 — which combines Qualcomm's Kryo 280 CPU, Adreno 540 GPU and Hexagon DSP — is expected to render 3D graphics 25 percent faster and output 60x more display colors in comparison to the Snapdragon 820.
For some reason, Galaxy S9 and S9 + support is listed as coming soon
on the VR platform's official website.
Though there were some interesting reveals made, one of the cooler ones revolves around Chrome and its future
on VR headsets.
As spotted by Mashable, the Cupertino giant recently posted a job listing that points at the company increasing its focus
on VR.
That said, it might take another 24 months, Besecker suggested, before Cardboard has a meaningful impact
on VR e-commerce.
But Microsoft wants Windows itself running
on VR and mixed reality headsets.
One of the more interesting things we're expecting to see at Comic - Con this year is a doubling down
on VR and immersive events.
Archos, Carl Zeiss, Fove and Starbreeze Studios are just a few of the others working
on VR headwear.

With the Fall Creators Update specifically, Microsoft is focusing more
on the VR side of things.
Facebook finds a way into China with Xiaomi tie - up
on VR headsets.
It essentially allows you to view contents in your browser
on VR.
It is also believed to feature a 4K display, as Samsung wants to focus more
on VR part of its devices.
Hop on your couch, strap
on your VR Gear, and fire up the app for NextVR.
Outside eliminating the smartphone, a stand - alone VR headset doesn't deal with all those processes, but instead focuses solely
on VR.
Still completely stuck in this hermetic idea of going
on a VR trip somewhere.
