New Horizons roared into a blue Florida sky
on 18 January 2006, it was met

The
new method researchers used to find and confirm these 715
planets relies
on the idea that
planets seem to cluster in systems
with other
planets, rather like our own.
«The amazing results from
New Horizons have revealed that Pluto is not just a tiny ice ball
on the edge of the solar system, but in fact it is a complex world of its own
with vast, alien landscapes containing clues to the geological history of this dwarf
planet,» he said.
The presence of ozone helps to explain the detection of hydroxyl (an unstable molecule of oxygen
with a single atom of hydrogen) high in
planet's atmosphere in 2008 (ESA news releases
on ozone, sulfur dioxide, and hydroxyl; Lisa Grossman,
New Scientist, October 6, 2011; and Montmessin et al, 2011).
In 2018, NASA will intensify its focus
on one of the most critical but remote parts of our changing
planet with the launch of two
new satellite missions and an array of airborne campaigns.

on the legacy of NASA's trail - blazing Kepler mission, which showed that exoplanets are commonplace, the $ 337 million Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, will study vastly more stars across 85 percent of the sky in a bid to pinpoint thousands of
new planets with the emphasis
on Earth - size or slightly larger.
On March 4, 2014, a team of astronomers announced that analysis of
new and older radial - velocity data from nearby red dwarf stars revealed a
planet with a minimum of 32 (max 49) Earth - masses at an average orbital distance of 0.97 AU from host star Gl 229,
with an orbital period around 471 days (UH news release; and Tuomi et al, 2014).
