Eventually, under the mentorship of people
like Eugene Peterson, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, and Wendell
Berry, I decided I would simply focus
on my own little flock wherever I was and forget about the system.
First, there are faithful - enough poetic reflections
on the doctrines about Heaven, which may (or may not) include a book
like the Paradisio of Dante (the Hollanders are your Dante translators to get, BTW), or the last part of Wendell
Berry's Remembering.
Bring a simmer and let reduce for about 20 - 30 minutes (depending
on how much you would
like the
berries to break down).
I
like a little cinnamon
on berries from time to time too.
Around here we
like eating our blackberries straight out of hand, but also enjoy them
on salad, made into a syrup or jam, in breakfast cookies and in quick breads and muffins and in Lemon
Berry Donut Holes.
Serve with a
berry compote, spread some jam
on them, or whatever you
like.

berries with pomegranate seeds and they fit right into the recipe.
Here, in the UK where I live now, it seems
like the hardest job to put my hands
on some nice
berries.
Mid-griddle additions would include those tasty bits that you'll want to place
on your hot cakes before you flip them — things
like whole
berries, chocolate chips, crunchy granola or little pieces of bacon.

The recipe originally suggested a half - pint of raspberries but I figure people can put
on whatever they
like — whipped cream, dried fruit, fresh
berries, etc..
You may
like to reserve some of the syrup (as there is often a fair amount) for using
on top of other dishes such as our
berry chia pudding.

During the afternoon snacking
