movies are born.
Most of the opening act of the
movie doesn't use
boxing as anything but a backdrop for Balboa's life, as he tries to persuade the shy Adrianna, or Adrian as he lovingly calls her, to go out
on a date with him.
But to skip Creed
on that basis is a mistake, for the rest of its two + hours are so great, so tautly filmed and featuring such honest, intelligent performances that it becomes a genuinely excellent
movie that happens to be about
boxing.
One could dismiss the
movie as propaganda for the Navy but only if one could find any scene in the
movie that glorifies finding oneself
on the bridge of an aircraft carrier over discovering your inner strength in the
boxing ring.
