The purpose of this analysis was to evaluate the effects of pacifier
use on breastfeeding duration in a cohort of US mother — infant dyads and the influence that timing of pacifier introduction exerts on any associated declines in breastfeeding duration.
That might sound obvious to mothers, but much of the scientific research on the topic to date has focused more
broadly on breastfeeding duration — not women's hopes and aspirations, or the specifics of why they stop nursing.
To evaluate the effect of pacifier introduction
on breastfeeding duration while adjusting for other known predictors of duration, Cox proportional hazard models were developed.
