The C.D. Howe Institute says the Canadian economy is particularly open and, because of its
reliance on commodity exports, vulnerable to shocks from abroad.
He added that the governor's familiarity with export roadblocks may hint at the government's concern about the impact of a strong
loonie on commodity exports.
Since 1983, the Federal Labor Government has transformed a complacent Australian economy - an economy which
relied on commodity exports, politically determined tariff walls and a fixed exchange rate.
Oil prices have recently stabilized, helping to boost commodity prices to their highest levels since December 2015, along with prospects for countries
reliant on commodity exports.
