Courtney J. Martin is an assistant professor in the History of Art and Architecture department at Brown University and the author of essays on the work of many contemporary artists, including Rasheed Araeen, Kader Attia, Rina Banerjee, Frank Bowling, Leslie Hewitt, Wangechi Mutu, Ed Ruscha and Yinka Shonibare.

This groundbreaking exhibition follows the artist's exploration of interlined topics, including a halting suite of works about 9/11; contemporary «history paintings» on life in America since the events of 9/11; homages to his friends, the women quilt makers of Gee's Bend, Ala.; memories of vanishing ways of life and his childhood in the the South; and evocations of human struggles for freedom.

The Contemporary Wing's Front Room Gallery will feature three immersive floor - to - ceiling Wall Works overlaid with paintings, collages, and silkscreens on Mylar by the artist.

In 2017, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles presented Kerry James Marshall: Mastry, the first major museum survey of the artist's work, specially focusing on his paintings from the past thirty - five years.

AWARD / HONOR On Nov. 25, the Smithsonian American Art Museum awards Njideka Akunyili Crosby the 2014 James Dicke Contemporary Artist Prize for her mixed - media paintings which it describes as «among the most visually, conceptually and technically exciting work being made today.»

Christine Eyene is a Research Fellow in Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire where she works on Making Histories Visible, an interdisciplinary visual arts research project led by Lubaina Himid MBE artist and Professor of Contemporary Art at UCLan.

In much of Barrada's work, she focuses on Tangier's relationship to Spain, a coastline only nine miles away, which was all but closed to Moroccan immigrants after the signing of the 1991 Schengen agreement, and the dissecting body of water — the Strait of Gibraltar — that defines much of how the artist understands contemporary life in Morocco.

On view in all are a selection of works by Contemporary Cuban artists donated to the museum by Jorge M. Pérez, the majority from a recent gift of over 170 pieces, as well as works previously gifted to PAMM in 2012, and several recent acquisitions.

Participants presented some of the most dynamic recent works from their roster of represented artists, offering an informed view on contemporary art making.

Yves Klein's FC1 (Fire Color 1) sold for $ 36,482,500, setting a work auction record for the artist, at New York, Rockefeller Plaza on 8 May 2012 in the Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale.

Produced in consultation with the Egerstrom family — the owners and occupiers of Cuadra San Cristóbal for whom the property was built — this sensitive intervention will shed new light on this well - known landmark and provide a different perspective on the work of one of our leading contemporary artists.

The U.S. premiere of the internationally traveling exhibition on the work of contemporary Belgian artist Michaël Borremans opens at the DMA in March 2015.
