The challenge here is that while eInk is often easier to read, many eTexts do not have a version that will work
on eInk readers.
Welll color me surprised you guys actually gave it a fair shot, though I think reviewing PDF's like manuals and maps in this day of age
on an eink reader is insanely outdated since even your smartphone will handle rendering these types of PDF's insanely better.

Also most people are not reading
on 10 inch tablets, they are reading
on 6 inch
eink readers.
eInk reader sales are going down because people are using an app
on high resolution tablets like the iPad.
But serious
readers when they have a choice will probably want to read
on an ebook
reader because of the
eink displays which make huge difference to the eyes.
eInk readers are easier
on the eyes, however they are not back - lit so reading in the dark requires a book light.

on all of the new
readers because they all use the same standard
EInk screen.

There are some good reasons for Amazon to stay focused

eInk when it comes to battery life or readability, 80 % of book sales are to 20 % of the people buying books and those people want dedicated reading devices.

on the «upgrade treadmill», Amazon released an upgrade to pretty much every single one of their devices, including two new Kindle Fire tablets and the predicted backlit
eInk reader.

eInk and potentially Color Kindle screen technology.
For times when I want to sit and read for a couple of hours though these
eInk readers are what I go to since the experience is so much better than an application
on a mobile platform.
We received quite a few replies from
readers but one of the more interesting ones said they'd like to have apps like Flipboard, Zite and Pulse
on their
eInk device.
For others (and I'm in this category), reading
on a dedicated
eink reader is a much better reading experience.
Nevertheless, as long as tablets weigh more than
eInk readers, their displays aren't as easy
on the eyes and they don't offer significantly longer battery life I'll remain a two - device reading consumer.
However, after using
readers based
on eInk, I strongly prefer to read
on such a device (be it a kindle or sony
reader) than to read
on a backlighted LCD screen.
I understand the need for pages
on paper or
eInk, but I always wonder why
readers on the iPhone or the Web want me to turn pages instead of scrolling.
The Pearl
eInk screen has been out for well over a year, and has been standard
on nearly all
eInk readers.
Give me a 80 - 100 buck ePUB capable
reader (with touch, preferably decent page turn buttons, and 6 ″
eInk Pearl), and I'll buy one just to have an in
on both of the ecosystems.
Oprah Winfrey ignited a new wave of Kindle love when she devoted a show to the little
eInk gadget in late October 2008, and Amazon further cemented its dominant role with new Kindle models in early 2009 and mid-2010 and free apps that allow
readers to «buy once, read anywhere»
on any computer, smartphone or handheld device.
In fact, the K3 wi - fi only is one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) 6 ″
eink reader on the market.
What they were thinking in part is explained everywhere for years and in this review: reading a book
on a tablet LCD display ranges from hard to impossible (in bight, such as outside, light)-- whereas reading an ebook
reader eInk display is easy even in bright light.
Books created with Kindle Textbook Creator are not made available
on Kindle
eInk readers.
Fixed - layout KF8 files work
on most Amazon Kindle devices, including the Kindle Fire tablet range, Kindle
eInk readers and Kindle reading apps.
The
Reader - aka the PRS - 500 - sports a 6in, 170dpi, 600 x 800 four - level greyscale display based
on technology developed by
eInk.
It will be interested to know where exactly the
eInk based
readers are heading, since it looks like the customer interest might migrate from dedicated eReaders to thin tablets based
on color LCD / OLED screens.
